Teacher Steve AU

CW's: Nongraphic mentions of murder, past character death (susan), spouse and child abuse implied.

- Steve works at Hawkins High School

- He is the youngest teacher at the school, by like... a lot. He's closer in age to his students then he is to some of his coworkers. (He's like... 22-25 yo in this)

- It's his first job since getting his teaching license. He's been there ~1-2 years at the start of the story.

- The Party are some of his favorite students.

- Max transfers into the school at the start of the story. It goes kind of like in the show only all of the kids are in high school instead of junior high and also Max is a LOT angrier.

- Lucas and Dustin take an immediate interest in her and think she's cool just like in the show, but they are also worried about her.

- Steve is also worried. She is definitely displaying some concerning behavior.

- So Steve sets up a parent teacher conference about her, even though his interactions with the parents usually go badly because a lot of the parents see him as being basically their kids age (he is actually the same age as some of their kids, since in this AU Jonathan and Nancy are his age)

- When the time for the parent teacher conference comes… and goes… and no one shows up Steve is disappointed but not entirely surprised. The kinds of behavior Max is displaying doesn’t typically come from a happy home environment.

- Steve is packing up to leave when Billy gets there.

- Billy is very much not what Steve was expecting, firstly because he is clearly too young to be Max’s father. Like Steve’s pretty sure Billy’s around his age.

- When Billy introduces himself as Max’s brother that makes more sense. But Steve really does need to talk to her parents/guardians so he tries to insist.

- To which Billy gruffly responds that he is her legal guardian so just get on with it.

- Not everything gets cleared up and sorted out that first night but they do manage to make some progress towards a plan to better help Max and Steve gets a better idea of what’s causing Max’s behavior issues.

- Turns out Neil killed Susan in a drunken rage, and after that there was no one to take her in except Billy (her step brother who she barely knows).

- They moved to Hawkins because Billy inherited a property in Hawkins from his maternal grandparents and it’s the only way he could afford to take in Max. (The studio apartment he lived in in California wasn’t big enough for just him let alone him AND Max)

- Gradually Steve and The Party grow closer with Billy and Max

- Eventually Steve and Billy get together?
