JMM staff Joanna and Paige were delighted to speak with students from Maryland Institute College of Art's Fiber Arts Department during their recent visit to #FashionStatement and #StitchingHistory from the Holocaust. 

We loved this comment following the visit: 

“One of my students who is pursuing a Curatorial Studies concentration at MICA and was a teen fellow at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, said on the way home that the exhibition was one of the best museum experiences she had had in her life.”

“I learned that the Jewish members of the community spoke a different language.”

❝ Did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen? ❞ It wasn’t Mr. Freeze, who was in Arkham so there had to be someone else.  For the most part, Ed could not care less about who is killing whom in Gotham, but he has been so bored lately that he has started solving even boring crimes (and even those the cops could not solve). Now whether the kid is actually interested in this, remains to be seen.  ❝ Would you like to help me find out who did it? ❞

❝ I can fill one room or just one heart. Others may have me, but I cannot be shared. What am I? ❞ Loneliness. Ed doesn’t wait for an answer  — the other man might not be as smart as Ed thought he was, but he was smart enough to figure out a riddle relevant to his own words. 

He will not admit this to the Bat, but he had been lonely. All his life. When he was with his parents, he spent most of his time shut in the house, thanks to father dear. At the orphanage, children came and went, there was no time to make friends. And even if there was... Ed had always been too weird, too smart to form a friendship. It was a cliché, a trend to say that no one really understood him, no really saw him and oh did he crave for such things. ❛ My hope was that you saw me. ❜  he wanted to say to him and in another world that things had not escalated the way they did between them, he would have. 

But is he afraid? No, he wouldn’t say so. He was just tired. And awfully bored. ❝ Only I don’t think not a word of what you said is true. One — ❞ he holds a finger up  ❝ — I am not afraid. Fear is what we can’t understand and I can understand everything. Two — ❞ another finger up  ❝ I am not alone. I have my followers still! And three... I highly doubt you are sorry. ❞

Not even Edward is sure why his first reaction is to laugh. For the first time, he wonders if every time Bruce Batman talks to him and tries to insult or hurt him, he is really speaking to himself, to the man that he is but refuses to embrace, to the man that he could have been if he had not inherited daddy’s company and wealth.

Just like so, from my ruin... a new you was born. A hero. The riddle is... how many have you ruined to become who you are? How many are you going to ruin to fight crime behind that mask? ❞
