‪My BFF’s 6 y/o studied very hard and got 💯on a spelling test. She didn’t ask for ice cream or toys as a reward - she asked for a trip to a museum. So, this is me now, holding my award for Best Museum Auntie and testing the bounds of my waterproof mascara.

Today was a good day. . As an educator at the museum, I'm responsible for working with and being trained on our education animals, including raptors. Today was my first date with Vinnie the Turkey vulture (Cathartes aura). Vinnie is a rehabilitated bird with a wing injury that cannot be returned to the wild. Instead, these rehabilitated animals become ambassadors for their species, helping inner city school children and the public understand more about the natural world, especially animals that are misunderstood. Education and inspiring wonder about wildlife is unbelievably important, as animals, especially vultures, become more threatened by humanity's actions in the wild. . #wildlife #ilovemuseums #conservation #wildlifeconservation #turkeyvulture #vulture #perkinswildlifecenter #museumsmatter #museum (at Cleveland Museum of Natural History)

I love museums! I had too much fun pulling specimens today for next week's Dissecting Dinosaurs homeschool class. . In our Education Collection, we have several natural history specimens without data, so not of scientific value anymore, but GREAT for teaching. Pictured here, top photo, is a Common merganser. Bottom photo is a Cardinal. . Next week homeschool kids will be learning about dinosaurs by dissecting real quail specimens and observing avian anatomy in comparison to non-avian dinosaur features. Women...with beards? Strange but true! This is no sideshow, this is about women's experiences with inequality in paleontology. . The Bearded Lady Project exhibition opens THIS SATURDAY and I can't be more excited! The Bearded Lady Project is a documentary film and photographic project celebrating the work of female paleontologists and highlighting the challenges and obstacles they face. Many of these women are friends of mine! . We will be showing the film at several events and I've planned programming featuring women in science during the run of the exhibition. I'll actually be featured (YAY!) in a video where myself and other co-workers who are also women in science will be giving insight into what got us interested in science from a young age. .
