Another note to Shiro that he keeps taped in his locker at school.

This André is a person Shiro has a HUGE crush on. Although the broganes go to separate schools, Keith does his best to be Shiro’s favorite wingman. Shiro, when meeting Keith, did not have many friends at all, and found one in his silent buddy.

Keith loves the lunch lady at his school. She’s his favorite person aside from Shiro.

Also; even tho Keith never speaks, his grammar and writing skills are top notch.

I found an amazing fic called "One Sided Duet" and it is SO fluffy and I love it. I don't usually read fics a second time but this one was an exception. Maybe tw for mentions of past abuse?

Mute Galra Keith

Anon: So Keith is captured by haggar, who does experiments on him to change him, but they recuse him before any real damage is done, but for some reason, when they take him out of the healing pod, he isn't talking. They are all talking at once and he tries to speak but can't (he's fully galra at this point) and no one knows why. When he tries to speak it sounds like a sore throat but worse, and it kinda hurts so he doesn't and it drives him crazy when he's trying to convince them that's he's still him. But the worse part is that lance notices that he can still make /sound/ just not talk. Like one day when he's comforting him, he hears a small whine like crying and while training he hears some kind of growl. He tells Coran and they wonder if the galra actually have different vocal chords that are different to use or something. It's not really a request but I certainly wouldn't mind if you wrote a fic or Headcannons for it~ <3

A/N: So I don’t know much about muteness - if you’re talking about muteness by emotional trauma versus he literally physically can’t speak anymore. I’m going to assume you mean he just physically can’t. But my guy, this was so much fun to think of, since I learned ASL for my language requirement.

So maybe, if Haggar was doing experiments, and they stuffed him in the healing pod, his vocal chords heal wrong.

Maybe because the pod freaks out because ‘this is Keith but it’s not Keith???’.

I imagine they have some DNA samples or something to reconstruct tissues and make sure they heal like their DNA says they’re supposed to.

That could cause other complications as well, but we can stick to his voice for now.

At first, everyone’s like “Okay, you were probably screaming while being experimented on, and you just woke up out of the healing pod, let’s give you a day or two to let your voice rest and figure out this Galra thing.”

Except his voice doesn’t get better.

They try everything they can to help.

Altean medicine.

More sleep.

Hunk even makes him some really really nice tea with the equivalent to lemon and ginger and honey.

None of it works.

This really upsets Keith. He’s normally a quiet dude, so it’s not earth-shattering, but when you rely on an intercom system to communicate in Voltron, this is a problem. He realizes this, and with all the added emotional trauma of being experimented on, he starts to tear up.

Coran’s been spending a lot of time with him because he’s a good space uncle.

“-and back when I was just a decafebe old, I had-...Keith, are you alright? You look kind of down.”

“-WHINE-”

“Oh quiznak, Keith. It’s alright, we’ll get your voice back eventually...”

He’s a very very good space uncle.

Unfortunately, Keith doesn’t get his voice back. But he learns to speak in other ways.

He can still whine and growl and there’s kind of a barking noise? And he absolutely yelps if anyone steps on his tail.

Speaking of tail, he can motion and point with it, and just like a cat, you can pay attention to it and see how he’s feeling from it.

And of course, he can still roll his eyes

But there will eventually come a time where he has to convey a very complex idea to the others and charades won’t cut it.

But just like the castleship can teach Pidge Altean, it can teach everyone ASL - Altean Sign Language.

It’s a bit hard at first, but Keith spends countless nights in front of a weird giant pair of hands (like the clamural hologram), learning as much as he can. 

And after a long time, he becomes fluent, and so do the others.

Not only does this benefit them, but it benefits all the aliens they save from the Galra empire

Not all of them know Altean Sign Language, but there’s gotta be a translator somewhere. Their communication range expands much farther.

NOT ONLY THAT

You can’t exactly sign while controlling a lion, can you?

Maybe you can cause Red is a badass, but let’s say you can’t

They develop quick and easy signs Keith can use with his tail, 

like “yes” and “no”, directional signs, and plan signs like he and Lance did in that one episode

And they learn to read his body language more

He stops making his default position crossed arms and against a wall.

So when Keith loses his voice, the team communicates on a much deeper level

Shiro keeps this taped on the wall of his childhood bedroom. He and keith became good friends during Keith’s time living with his most recent foster family. Keith refused to speak at all, and hasn’t since he was 8, but he and Shiro found their own way to communicate and know their thoughts well without speech. His favorite form of communication is to give Shiro a stupid photo with a note written on it. This is one of them. Poor 16 year old Shiro had the flu, and young 13 year old Keith decided to let Shiro know he cared.

Some kallura and some Matt 👀

Matt is Pidge’s long lost brother.

They were separated after a year in the foster system, and she barely remembers. He, however, does. And he’s shocked to see that out of anywhere in the world, he found her OUTSIDE of the world.

Matt, when he was young, was exploring the desert when he stumbled upon an old OLD galran ship. He stumbled inside as well, being shot up into space.

Keith and Allura are just enjoying each other hehe
