I saw a truck overturned off the on ramp and attempted to contact 911. I'm mute and cannot talk so calling into 911 is out of the question. The picture shows my message and the automatic response generated to texts sent to 911. Not to sound like a broken record here, but what the fuck? Till now I haven't had a reason to contact 911 and didn't know text were not allowed. This is a serious disregard for those of us who cannot communicate through speech. How can an entire demographic have such trouble using even basic emergency services? And why hasn't this been addressed previously? I know this may seem trivial, but it's a serious concern for me. If I ever require assistance, what am I, or others like me, supposed to do? With 2018 coming to a close and 2019 just around the corner I wanted to talk about goals and resolutions. Simply put, the whole 'New Year, New You' mentality is utter bullshit. New Year's day is not some magical time where all your goals and dreams and wishes are going to come true. It's a day just like any other. Every single day needs to be the start of a new year for you and every single day you need to make the decision to improve yourself. Make the decision to work on yourself, to reach the goals you set. Because what's going to happen is that millions of people across the country are going to go out, get a gym membership, go for a week or two, and then stop because other stuff is more important, or because they're not progressing as fast as they think they should. Look, most people didn't get out of shape and unhealthy in a week or two, so why the hell do you think you'll get in shape in a week or two? That's completely illogical. You have to put in the work to get results. Last year in the same pose as my picture, you could barely see any muscle on my arms when I flexed. What you see is hard work and consistentcy, and a balanced diet. You can reach your goals, but please don't think that just because 2019 is coming that it'll be magical. Today is leg day and this has become one of my favorite leg workouts. It allows you to focus on form and weight, without having to balance the load like you would with traditional squats. And if your like me and have trouble working your glutes, this most definitely can be your best friend. However, don't let the use of the term 'leg day' throw you off or mistake what I'm saying. Leg day for me is the day that I focus more on legs than any other body part. I typically do full body workouts, so I also hit each muscle group in my upper body as well. Instead of doing 3 sets, like I did for legs, I only did 1 set for my upper body. I prefer 3 sets simply because it allows me to work each muscle three ways. By pointing my toes out, in, or straight I'm able to work each muscles group that much harder. Much the same as with upper body with wide, narrow, and traditional hand grips. I make each muscle group work it's ass off, and ensures that I'm less likely to have imbalances within any given group. As always the main focus is on form and doing it right and steady. This is my daughter, Jazzie, learning her way around the gym. She is 12 years old, and she has the time of her life every time we go together. No matter the age, fitness truly is for everyone. By taking her to the gym with me at her age, it allows us to spend time together, strengthen our bond, and it also instills healthy habits at an age where kids are confused, their bodies are changing, and they are starving for guidance. It shows her just what she is capable of, gives her confidence, and a sense of belonging. We got her 1RM's today and she was impressed with what she could do. It's also a great way for parents to get off their assess and spend time with their kids. I always hear excuses about why people CANT go to the gym, and kids are usually the top of the list. Rarely do I hear people make excuses to GO to the gym. We owe it to our children to show them that there is more to life than just sitting on their asses playing video games and becoming obese at a young age. It's funny how so many people say they don't have time for the gym, but can tell you all about what happened on Game of Thrones pr other shows that do nothing to enrich their lives. The picture your seeing is a screenshot I took of a fitness app. When I was first getting back into fitness and working out, I met with a lot of frustrations. Personal trainers can be expensive, attempting to communicate with speaking people to obtain information was a massive undertaking, and there are so many fitness apps that it's mind boggling. So, I have decided to start changing the last part. What I am doing is sorting through the multitude of apps out there, and using them to determine which give results, and which are wastes of time. Everyone says we need to be different, and that to be different is good, that we are all equal. I'm calling bullshit. Being different is only a good thing within a demographic. Outside that demographic, your screwed. Equality is a lie. Now I know people will argue with that statement, but they don't have a leg to stand on. Until about 8 months ago I was a typical person. Went to work, pursued interests, and just lived as best I could. Then I lost my ability to speak and the world changed. I'm Mute and I will tell you equality is a lie. Speaking people claim we are all equal and we need to be more understanding. Yet sign language, the thrid most used language in the U.S is virtually unknown. We require our children to learn Spanish, yet within our own country, very few people understand and can communicate with me in my language. Out of all the people who are speech impaired, and that includes deaf, mute, and other impediments that make speech impossible, 90% are on government assistance. Why? Because the only places that will hire them are minimum wage, crappy places that people don't want to work. For all the claims of equality speech impaired people are all pushed to the side. That's why we reference the deaf community, or mute community, because speaking people have pushed us to the side so they don't have to deal with us. To keep the pretty little lies that allow them to sleep at night. Because deep down, speaking people know they are treating other human beings as less. But we aren't really standing for it anymore. Speech impaired people are standing up and fighting back. We now have deaf police officers, actors, athletes, and a whole slew of other areas in which we are refusing to sit in the corner anymore. We might be unable to speak but we have a voice and we are using it. We refuse to be pushed aside any longer and we will be heard. I refuse to allow others to dictate my life and my choices.
