When you read the Quran and come across “O you who have believed”, do you think that those who have believed are living on Mars? No, Allah is addressing you! You are among those who believe. And when you come across “O mankind”, do you think mankind is living on Saturn? Pay attention—you are part of mankind.

When commands and prohibitions appear in the Quran, they are not just directed at Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهم. They are directed at you. These commands and prohibitions are meant specifically for you. The Quran does not only address the Muslim community as a whole—it addresses each and every individual Muslim personally. Every single person is being addressed directly by the Quran.

So when you read these verses, understand that they are messages from Allah to you. Read them as if a servant is reading the commands of his master with purpose and intent. Imagine a slave whose master sends him written instructions—commands and prohibitions in a letter. The worker receives this letter, kisses it, places it on his head, perfumes it and puts it on a shelf. But that’s all he does. He doesn’t follow the instructions.

Now, if the master later asks him, “What did you do with my message?”, and the worker replies, “I received it, kissed it, perfumed it, placed it on the shelf, and every day I take it down, kiss it again, read it, and put it back.”—what will the master do? He will hit him! He will say, “Did I send this letter just for you to honor it, open and close it, and place it on a shelf? Or did I send it for you to act upon it?”

Likewise, the Quran is not just meant to be recited and admired—it is meant to be followed. That is why the Prophet ﷺ said, “The Quran is either a proof for you or against you.”

So if you read “O you who have believed”, but then act like those who disbelieve, how will you answer Allah when you meet Him? Allah will surely question you about what you recited.

There’s no deity worthy of worship but Allah*

“Allah” comes from the stem word “ilaah” + Alif laam

ال+اله=الله

Roughly translating to “the ilaah” (the worshipped)

In Arabic:

أله، يأله، الها

He worshipped, worships, a worshipped enity

Claiming Allah is One without claiming that He is worthy of worship will not save one from His wrath.

The word ya’lahu (to worship) itself carries many meanings, from them being “turning to” “showing reverence to” “trusting” “relying on” etc, and those are all forms of worship to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala! سبحان الله.

Many of today’s mushrikin believe Allah is One, and that there is none with exactly similar power to Him; yet they still sought others in worship (du’a for example) therefore becoming mushrikin and making Jahannam their eternal abode.

Tawhīd is three parts, two of them lead to the Tawhīd of “worship” or Tawhīd al Uluhiyyah, for the fact that Allah is the Rabb (from tawhīd al rubūbiyyah) and the fact that we acknowledge His names and attributes (asma’ and sifaat) makes Him worthy to he worshipped!

For the Rabb (the sustainer the creator the owner etc etc) and the owner of those great names and attributes with which He showers us in blessings and rules upon us with qist (justice) and Rahma, such entity surely deserves to be worshipped, and this is known by fitra! Therefore, if you acknowledge Tawhid al ruboobiyyah and Tawhid al Asmaa wa al Sifaat you will automatically find yourself leaning towards Allah in worship (towards tawhīd al Uluhiyyah)

And the other way around too, when you say “there’s no deity worthy of worship besides Allah” (tawhīd al Uluhiyyah) you are just with these counted words saying that you also believe in His rubūbiyyah and His asmaa and sifaat (so you’re a believer unless you commit a nullifier) for you would not worship Him unless He were the creator and the sustainer and the most merciful and compassionate etc etc, in easier terms, you would not worship Him if you did not believe in His rubūbiyyah and Asmaa and Sifaat (obviously unless you have a shubha or flawed ta’wil but this isn’t our point here)

What a beautiful word La Ilaha Illa Allah is, the separation between islam and Shirk, and How merciful is Allah that He summarised His entire religion in a sentence of 5 words!

I came across this hadith of the prophet ﷺ, in which he ﷺ said:

“By the One in whose hand is my soul, you must enjoin good and forbid evil, or else Allah will soon send punishment upon you. Then, you will call upon Allah and it will not be answered for you.”

This hadith sould send shivers down your spine.

While many of us Muwahhidīn abstain from forbidding the evil and enjoining the good out of fear or shame -or mere laziness!- the wrongdoers shamelessly and diligently spread their corruption without fearing the blame of blamers!

And while many of us remain in complete silence -providing no benefit to the Ummah- the kuffar are magnifying their efforts against islam and Muslims daily, breaking our stronghold and infiltrating our minds and those of the future generations of Muslimeen.

The sincere Muwahhid -especially in our times where corruption is widespread- strives to make himself a servant for Islam and Muslims in any way possible, in private and public, with his wealth, his time and his limbs… he strives to silence the evil by spreading the good, and silences falsehood by sharing the truth. And he never surrenders to the plots of the kuffar whose sole and greatest purpose is to stop him from that which Allah commanded him to do, and made it one of the principles of His religion: -enjoining virtue and forbidding evil-

The sincere muwahhid whose heart is in a state of constant إنابة (devotion) to Allah never abandons his ثغر (role), despite taking short breaks due to the weakness of his nafs against the enemies whom we all live in a battle with: The nafs and Shayateen of ins and jinn.

So Oh brother of Tawhīd, enough taking and not giving anything back, enough living in the honour of islam and the honour of the community of Muslimeen without giving islam and muslims anything back from that which Allah has blessed you with (from talents and time and wealth), and therefore depriving yourself and the muslimeen of great benefit and perhaps being a cause for the great wrath of Allah to fall upon yourself and your fellow brothers.

So magnify your efforts in serving this deen and let not the blessings granted by Allah to you go in vain for you will be asked about them.

The islam of Muhammad

“Islam is easy don’t overcomplicate it and ruin your life” ,they said, forgetting that “easy” and “hard” are not labels we define islam with, or nouns we use to determine wether something is worth doing or not.

“My” version of islam being “hard” never meant it was wrong, the islam I know Muhammad came with was never easy, I read His seerah and found out that He ﷺ was not a man who lived in luxury, nor was He accepted by everyone, nor was He a man who turned a blind eye on the suffering of his companions. I read the stories of the prophets before him, and neither did any of them seek the easy way as many now want me to!

I want the Jannah they wanted, I don’t want to be among the mediocre.

I seek the “hard” islam, the one hated by everyone -even some of those who claim to be muslims-, the islam that sends shivers down the spine of every kaffir, the islam which brought honour to this Ummah.

The islam which makes me opposed by the eastern and western nations, like Allah’s dearest human being -ﷺ- was, the islam that makes me feel uneasy in this place, this place to which I don’t belong…

Keep the easy islam to yourselves. I want the Islam of Muhammad! I want islam with all of its sides, those which align with our modern life, those who don’t, those which will make me loved and those which will make me hated…

“You’re involving yourself in fitna, let those people be and mind your business” a phrase that may sound logical for those who carry hearts afflicted with a lack of walaa and baraa. However, me, I say just like Musa said: “My Lord, for the favor You have bestowed upon me, I will never be a helper to the criminals.’” and silence is also support.

“Leave those things” as if they’re none of my concern, as if I am created to eat and sleep, bow and prostrate and memorise a book which I do not act upon!, as if striving for the muslims is for a certain people only, a people in a remote land which we only see on TV and newspapers, as if Jannah is made for them only, as if they have a lord different to the One we have, as if their sacrifice is wisdom, while ours is heedlessness! As if they are descendants of heroes and we are not, as if it is written in their foreheads once they are born “Ghareeb” while ours say “mediocre commoner”.

They will say we are honour-less and neglectful, excuse themselves before Allah with their weakness and lack of power, they’ll cry and wail, and ask Allah to use them and not replace them! however, when Allah opens a way for them to make their lives worthy, they say “no Allah, not us, we are made for lowliness. We are pleased with the lowest level of Your paradise”

Strange!

Oh Allah, I promise -and keep me firm upon this covenant- since you guided me and chosen me amongst thousands and millions of your servants, that I will never be a supporter of the disbelievers who deny your existence, or ascribe to you that which does not match your majesty ya Allah, I promise to never speak in their favour or remain silent against their harm.

Oh Allah I promise to forbid the evil of people’s tongues against your servants with my hands, tongue or heart -and that is the weakest of eeman-.

“Oh Allah I ask you to support your monotheistic servants who fight in your way ya Allah, oh Allah grant them victory, oh Allah open the lands through them. Oh Allah, for the sake of the women, oh Allah, for the sake of the widowed women, and the enslaved ones, for the sake of the nursing children, and the prostrating elders, oh Allah protect the land of muslims, and grant its inhabitants steadfastness”

Oh Allah, You have guided us to the religion of your allies, so make us like them and worthy of their company.

Ya Allah I promise to not forsake the call of those who call upon their Ummah and are left unanswered, those who say “Oh our Ummah, are you aware that we strive to grant you dignity? after the Ever Watchful, who do we have -oh dear one- besides you?!”

Today I woke up to someone (from the people I live with) revising Surah Al Baqara, repeating the ayah that goes: “Do you command others to do good and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Will you not reason”

It felt like a sign, a slap in the face right as I opened my eyes from my sleep, but that didn’t motivate me to be better, I just thought I was doomed, will I not reason? Will I not repent?

A few hours later, I passed by this beautiful text, and, this calmed my stirred emotions -which led me nowhere-, and instead actually motivated me to remain firm and steadfast and to rush to tawbah after sin every single time.

What we learn from this is that we’re all different and we all absorb different types of advice, for some, kind advice is what enters their heart the easiest, and their guilt causes them to repent and retreat, for others, nothing but a threat will move them and cause them to get better, so be wise when you advice others, and when you seek advice for yourself.

Never think your laziness is the reason why you cannot do certain ibadaat, when you can easily hang out with your friends, do your chores etc. It’s not laziness, it’s a lack of tawfiq from Allah, Allah did not allow you to do that deed.

It is not that you are poor that you can’t give sadaqa, its not that your alarm doesn’t go off that you can’t wake up for fajr, it’s not that you dont have time that you don’t read the qur’an, it’s that your sins stopped you.

Allah seals your heart when you transgress His boundaries without repenting, and deprives you of worshipping Him.

So when you find the side of bad deeds in your scale heavier than good ones do not blame anyone but yourself.

Rush to tawbah and istighfar, cleanse your heart before it is too late.
