hi chat I am back to make a post

i have ONCE AGAIN revised my slugcat designs and i thought i'd share it with you -> i WILL get into some minor watcher spoilers, because they are now included. yayyy

there they are ! close ups and small design notes below

the base game scugs ! i'm once again trying to incorporate shape language into my designs. There isn't a lot to note with these three.

downpour scugs. :) . i had a few more references and inspirations here. Gourmand is based off of lions, bears and freshly baked pastries. Yes, the pattern on the muzzle is meant to look like a moustache. With Spearmaster I decided to take a more arachnid approach. They still don't have a mouth, but I gave them spider fangs, chelicerae, pedipalps and spikes that resemble spider legs and spinnerets. I always imagined the spears to work like spider silk, with them having silk glands with liquid dope that solidifies when pushed out. Artificer is based on cartoon explosions, dragonfruit and an armadillo girldeld lizard. They're able to move around the "frills" closest to the head to help with explosion jump direction, because their neck/throat is the area they're able to make their explosions from. Rivulet is just a silly billy with a tail referencing the cyerce nigricans nudibranch. The gills on their head aren't actual gills btw, but just growths to mimic them. They don't have gills at all and breathe air. The way they're able to last longer underwater is because they have more myoglobin compared to the rest, similar to whales or other marine mammals. Saint is fluffy. Not sure what else to say.

Nightcat, Watcher and Inv. All three resemble each other, but i got a little headcanon that they're all in a way the same slugcat. :) Nightcat, in my hc, is the original powerless Watcher we play as in the campaign. They're in a different timeline from the rest of the slugcats, because yeah.,..,. Upon meeting the echo and then experiencing the warp, Nightcat is split into Watcher and Inv. Watcher is this new and improved body for Nightcat, which is able to adjust to all the new abilities they gain, while Inv is the husk left behind, slowly changing as it's left behind in the rotting base game regions. I like to imagine that the nasty fucked up regions in Inv's campaign is what the rotted regions became and that the dating sim is them actually being thrown into a different timeline after they couldn't properly ascend due to just being a weird dumb husk thing. Judge me all u want for that, I guess,
