Pantser and Night Owl for the ask game! (@my-writblr)
Pantser : Tell me about a time you wrote something for your WIP on a whim.
uhhh I'm a plotter, so writing things on a whim tends to go badly, but one time I spontaneously added in a 50k word plotline about a magic piano. (Surprise, surprise, it lent nothing to the plot and i had to take it out in edits ;-;).
Night owl : Have you ever stayed up til the wee hours of the morning just to keep writing?
nope! 12:30am is the latest I've gone to. After that, I'm too tired to function and write well anyway.
@my-writblr here!
I, too, have a character named Lucien, but spelled differently from yours (at least in the tag I saw the name in)!! Idk I just thought that was cool! I haven't decided if it's going to be Lucienne trans!fem with lesbian vibes, or Lucien male and just aromantic pansexual polyamorous vibes. Lucien/ne is cursed to become a wolf at night (except on the new moon) and I really think it'd be cool to have the APP vibes instead of the T!FL since it's called Love Triangle Gone Wrong. But idk. I love both AU's so much.
Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble in your ask box LOL - Tell me more about your Lulu.
hi!! It's so funny to me that we both have a Lucian/Lucien. Like... i expect names like Bob or Mary or whatever, but Lucian?? lmao.
anyway! your Lucien sounds really cool, and I love the wolf curse. My Lucian (spelled with an A) is. hm.
well! as i said in the tag! Lucian (they/it pronouns btw) is an asshole. They're in their mid-twenties, and essentially act as the mentor-slash-devil on the shoulder of Rowan (book 2's main character). To be clear, they're not shitty to Rowan! They're actually extremely protective of her, and secretly sees her as family. However, their loyalty and who they do and don't see as a person worth respecting revolves almost entirely around how that person treats Rowan. it had everything in it's life taken from it, and Rowan is the only thing left.
Lucian is in what is essentially magical alcatraz; the most top-security prison there is. And... that is not unwarranted, but that's something to talk about another day. At first, when they were like 18 and rowan was a wee little 10yo, they wanted absolutely nothing to do with her. (They have no choice, though, part of their punishment is hanging around and helping her). But fast forward seven years and they would die for her/have literally killed for her. It's a complicated friendship, and certainly not a perfect one, but Lucian is essential for Rowan's survival, and vice versa.
Now, bonus: a picrew of them!
ty for the ask and have a great day!
Whatever suits your fancy for the writing ask game! (@my-writblr)
Whatever suits your fancy : Beginning, middle or end? Which is your favourite part to write and why?
Beginning, since I have way more experience with starting a project than with middles or endings haha. I also love how exciting it is to begin! So much potential. We're all sweet summer children at the start...
@my-writblr Here! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thank you @my-writblr! Here's more from Recollections.
His face was heavy, and he said something I could never have braced for: "If I go, will you be alright without me?"
I felt a disquieting fury building up within me as I stared him down, wide-eyed. I really thought by then I'd seen the worst of his arrogance, but now I saw exactly what I was to him. I was still a fragile thing in need of him to save me.
@my-writblr here! 3 and 22 and A for the character ask game!!
Thanks @my-writblr. I'll be answering these for JC from Project Pulsar because I've been thinking about him a lot recently.
3. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)
JC's daily routine varies a lot depending on where he is and how many jobs he's taken or not, so there's not much he manages to do every day before bed. In general, though, once all his work duties are done he likes to take it easy and listen to music or watch old Earth movies. Before bed is also usually when he gets the most nostalgic for his time on Earth, looking over old pictures and whatever knick-knacks he's managed to hang onto since he left.
22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?
JC doesn't get jealous often. Apathy is both his greatest virtue and vice. When he does get jealous, which usually only happens when he's confronted with someone who's handled their life in a way he wished he handled his, he usually winds up being a major asshole to whoever he's envious of. He tries to convince himself that they're the wrong one and that he knows better than everyone else.
A) Why are you excited about this character?
JC is a fun character for a lot of reasons. Of course, there's the stuff I put in basically all my projects: the tragic backstory, the bad coping techniques, the found family dynamics. But one of m favorite things about him is his morality. I have a lot of morally grey characters, don't get me wrong, but I feel like JC is unique in the way that he's morally grey. He isn't torn between two ideologies or a good person forced to do bad things; he's just apathetic about pretty much everything. He might have a vague inclination to do good things rather than bad, but he's been so jaded by his experiences that he's willing to push his own morals aside with very little prompting. He feels like his life is so insignificant that basically nothing he does will matter and so he does whatever he has to in order to keep living another day, half-heartedly hoping for something of consequence to happen in his life.
Obviously, he's far from a healthy character, but his interesting perspective is really fun to write about. Basically, his whole story is just an exercise in throwing ideologies and experiences at him and seeing what sticks and wakes him up. He's certainly stubborn, but I think after it all I might finally get through to him.
Hi! @my-writblr here! What's your current WIP progress and who is your fav character at the moment? (I know it's really hard to choose when you have so many favs, it's like choosing a fav child) But! Who is your favorite to write?
hi! thanks for the ask!
for the first question, i wasn't sure if you meant, like, status or wordcount, so I'll just throw both down (for the three WIPs I've already posted about here).
For Legacy, the entire series has a full plot outline (vague in places), and is currently just under 8000 words, which should be nearly 1/4 of the first book.
For Call, the whole series has a pretty loose outline, and about 3500 words, which is nearly 1/3 of the way through the first section of the first book.
For Hidden War, I've got some general ideas/notes for the whole thing but only about 200 words written, which is part-way through the 'introduction' section.
My current fave character to write is probably Lujayn, the mc from Legacy. They have quite a dark sense of humour, so even when things are getting pretty bad in the story their internal monologue can still be really funny. idk, there's more, i'm just not sure how to express it. i guess they just have some stunning vibes, in both the metaphorical sense and the knocking you over the back of the head sense lmao.
anyway, sorry I took so long to answer, i was busy with coursework for the first half of the week and packing to come home from uni for xmas for the second half 😅
HI!! @my-writblr here! Who is your current fav character to write about and why?
Thanks for asking @my-writblr. Recently, I've really been on an Isaac kick. Maybe it's just the headspace I've been in, but the fact that he's just a normal guy living a really weird life and trying his best to be good at it has really been resonating with me. Obviously, there's a theme in my writing of people being forced into bad situations, but I feel like Isaac's strategy of taking it in stride and doing his best with what he has is the one I'm identifying with most as time goes on. Plus, I love exploring his relationships with those around him and his awkward place in the system.
