Lena woke up hungover. She winced as the light and then groaned as her phone kept ringing. She fumbled for it and squinted at the caller ID.
“Sam?”
“Finally!”
Lena groaned again jerking the phone away.
“Hungover, inside voice,” Lena mumbled.
“Lena honey, get up, shower, and get some coffee. Then call me back.”
Lena mumbled something closing her eyes.
“Now! Actually I’ll just call back in twenty. Do not go to sleep!”
Lena dropped her phone and mumbled into her pillow. She considered getting up but she decided that would be a lot of effort and she was hungover. So she went back to sleep again. Sam would call back anyway.
The obnoxious sound of her phone ringing again pulled her from falling into blissful sleep for the second time. She didn’t bother looking at the caller ID before answering.
“Sam it hasn’t been twenty minutes-”
“Lena, darling! Why haven’t you called me about this?” Jack asked excitedly.
Lena groaned dropping her face back into the comforting embrace of her pillow.
“Jack I’m hungover. What are you on about.”
“Wait, you don’t know?” he asked his voice sounding far too loud. “Oh Lena this is going to be big. Kara Danvers! The real and official Kara Danvers. And you’re going to marry her.”
“What?” Lena asked, alarmed.
She didn’t remember getting engaged. She glanced over at the other side of her bed to make sure this mysterious Kara Danvers wasn’t there. Jack was still talking but she’d moved her phone away from her ear. Someone was ringing her doorbell, repeatedly. Lena dragged herself up and put on a robe heading for the door.
She looked through the peephole and saw Sam. She sighed and unlocked it finding herself shoved out of the way as Sam hurried into her apartment.
“Shower now,” she ordered. “I’ll make coffee.”
Lena groaned and looked down at her phone.
“Sorry Jack. Sam’s here and bossing me around. I’ll call you back later.”
