OC-tober 2025 Day 11 Skills
The power of Myi is a very prominent part of the world of Overseer of the Elements. While its rumored that there are some parts of the world where Myi Wielders are considered an abnormality, in the lands our heroes tend to travel, its use is common place. In fact, a vast majority of people wield Myi in their everyday lives. It's used frequently enough to be integrated into their very society.
Myi Wielders come born aligned to one of four elements: heat, water, nature, and sky. Some may specialize in a specific aspects of their elements, while others wield the element more generally.
When they focus their power, their minds allow them to gather matter around them and convert it into Myi. Usually it's molecules of Myi that already exist all around them. But in areas without Myi, other naturally occurring molecules, such as those in the air or water, can be converted as well. After gathering a large enough concentration of Myi, it then gets converted into their elemental powers and is unleashed.
It's a skill naturally gained at birth. Though some have a delayed reaction, taking a few years to be able to wield it. While an even rarer portion of people are just born without Myi all together.
Studies are still being done to better understand exactly how Myi works and why certain people can wield certain types of Myi. A common theory is that its genetic. As people who are born into lands isolated by a single element, such as Sara's home island, tend to be born with that element as well. Though its hard to fully confirm this, as society outside of isolated islands tend to be much more open to the mixing and matching of people of different elements and cultures.
A big exception to the preserved rules of Myi and its wielders are the mythic "Light" and "Dark" Myi. Long story short, dark Myi seems to be only wielded by beings formed from it. While Light Myi has two specific scenarios were it can be wielded. Either by someone chosen by the Guiding Light. Or by a Light Priestess, who have dedicated their entire lives to vigorous training and practices in order to wield even a portion of it..
