Successful Study Habits and Skills:
Don’t do too much at once - Doing too much studying at once can make it harder to focus, and it’s easier to get tired. By taking short breaks every once in a while, it becomes easier to focus on your work.
Study at the same time each day - Doing this helps create a routine and it’ll become a more regular part of your day. When you get used to studying at a certain time each day, it becomes easier for you to get into a mindset for studying.
Set specific goals for your study time - Using goals can help motivate you more, and can help you get more out your studying. By focusing on something you want to accomplish, you’re more likely to get it done.
Avoid distractions - It’s easy to get distracted while studying, but avoiding distractions is important. Unless your work requires a device, put it away. Avoid listening to really loud music, and don’t study somewhere that’s too comfortable, like your bed. By avoiding these distractions you’ll remain more focused.
Work with friends - Even though you shouldn’t be using a device during your study time, calling or texting a friend can help you if you’re having difficulty with your work. A second mind can help you figure out what you need to know, and you can do the same for them.
Review work in your free time - Weekends are meant to be fun, but if you really have nothing to do, reviewing your notes over the weekend can be a big help. This extra bit of work will help you when it comes time for tests or assignments.
How These Skills Have Helped Me:
Knowing how to study successfully is very important. By taking breaks, i find it easier to focus on my work, and i can study for longer, and i don’t get tired. I’ve also started to study at the same time everyday, and I've found that it’s now easier for myself to start studying. I also like to set goals before i start studying, because i find it makes me feel more motivated, and i get more accomplished. Obviously avoiding distractions is important, and i don’t use my device unless i need to, and i always study at my desk. I also like working with my friends when i can, because we can help each other out, and so if any of us are confused about anything, we can clear it up. Finally, when i have free time, i occasionally go over some of my notes, and it helps me remember information better, which helps me when i have an upcoming test or assignment. Overall, study skills are an important skill that i will use throughout high school, and the rest of my career. Learning these skills in GLS is going to benefit me greatly.
