Life is a like a #hike. You can't have the mountain top experiences without enduring the difficult climb to the top. I just can't help but think of all the times I've been in the valley of life, at the very bottom, looking up. Many times, it's like this hike to the Wind Cave (where this pic was taken). You couldn't even see where we were going and you didn't even know how long it would take to get there. We had to trust the path and follow it to the top, without even seeing where we were headed until the very last surprising turn. And it was SO worth it!! . It's so easy to be so overwhelmed with the tasks of life, we miss the view along the way. Ironically, we can't stay on the mountain top forever. At some point, what goes up, must go down. We constantly go thru ups and downs in life, but we can enjoy the journey if we stop and enjoy the view along the way. God is so good. Even on the tough hikes in life. I don't know who originally came up with this quote but it's one of my favorites because it's SO TRUE! How often do we have one diet fail and then we just completely blow it even more. Or skip one workout and decide to throw the rest of the week away too and just "start Monday". So silly! But I think we all do it to a certain extent. . We have to focus on the facts. 1 workout is better than none. A short workout is better than no workout. One bad meal is better than an entire bad day of eating. Don't fall in that "tire-stashing" mentality. I would have NEVER thought in a million years that I'd be competing with @stevepfiester. He has really helped me get out of my comfort zone. He has believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He's encouraged me to chase my dreams, to make a difference, to do the (seemingly) impossible and to seek God's will through it all. . The thing we learn most from doing this together is just how important grace is. Hunger and overtraining makes you ugly as fast as you can say peanut butter. Lol. Seriously! We get SHORT tempered, selfish and emotional before a competition and we often take it out on each other. . A perfect marriage isn't 2 perfect people doing everything right. A perfect marriage is a marriage that understands the importance of extending grace. It's a marriage that's built on being quick to forgive, quick to hit your knees in prayer and quick to receive correction. It's a marriage based on faith and not performance. . We kinda bombed this weekend in the marriage department. We both brought home trophies for being physically fit but our attitudes were out of shape and our marriage really needed a workout. Blame it on the low carbs, burnout or whatever you want, but it really is just our own fault and letting our flesh rule our tongue and mind. So, right in the middle of it all (the peak of conflict and griping lol, when the LAST thing you want to do is pray lol), we hit our knees and gave it to the Lord. "I am the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?" Jeremiah 32:27. Thank goodness He is in the fixing business. . I woke up this morning with coffee and love notes on the counter, and a reminder that we don't always act the way we really feel. We treat the ones we love the worst sometimes. I love you Steve. My last competition of the year!!! <Insert Hallelujahs here!> (I'll post more pics on my FB fan page) Still loving my suit @sewninthesun !!! 👙This show has a LOT of incredible athletes 🏆 who've worked hard and it shows. Amazing conditioning! . I have no idea 😳 how I'll do, but I can't worry with HOW I'll do tonight, but WHY i am doing it. I did it for accountability. I did it because I need structure and discipline. I did it to stay lean this summer for jobs. I did it to learn, progress, 🎯 improve and grow🌱. It HAS to be more than just sculpting a physique or losing fat. 🤔 I go in this knowing God wants to teach 📖 me something new each time. He always schools me lol. 🤓Whether I place dead last or first, I think of what Matthew Henry said about physical training (1 Tim. 4:8). . He said "Outward acts of self-denial profit little. What will it avail us to mortify the body, if we do not mortify sin? No diligence in mere outward things could be of much use." . Self-denial is a HUGE part of competing. It reminds me how powerful 💪🏼 the flesh is and how it tries so hard to control us. Hunger😋, laziness😵, mental battles😩, etc. But disciplining the body is just ONE part that needs work. What good is it if I control my plate and a weight but can't control my tongue👅, temper😡, selfishness😮 or poor😒attitude? While fitness does profit, it is little in comparison to the benefits of spiritual training😇. It's days like today I realize just how much more I need Jesus to help me be who he's desires me to be. . No make💄up in the world can cover an ugly❤️heart. Yet a beautiful💖heart can make anyone light☀️✨up a room. I still need a lot of work!!
