Genderfluid Mystique should have been a thing
Okay but, I've been thinking about this a ton. Mystique is always played as a hyper femme, femme fatale character. And as much as I would absolutely use her powers to fight my dysphoria if I had the chance I think that's a really interesting story to tell where she's dealing with being able to be anyone. To have any combination of equipment. To be the ultimate in Genderqueer because she could just say fuck gender and be whoever.
Moreover, there was a point where the writers considered canonically making her rogues biological father but decided to go against that because they figured their readers wouldn't like that. I can't source this, I read about it close to ten years ago, but I constantly think about it and hour we were robbed of a really incredible story where Mystique has to face her gender identity as someone who can be anything.
Also the face that we have a notable transphobe playing her is really really frustrating.
