Among the Roses
The moon shone brightly on the garden, the colours of the roses now muted blue-greys like pebbles along the shore. A shiver ran down his spine as the hairs on his neck tingled.
“Hello?” he said. Looked to the left and the right. Not a soul. “Who’s there?” His grip on the umbrella handle was clammy.
A foghorn bellowed in the distance. Clouds crept over the moon’s face, casting long, gauzy shadows over the garden.
Mycroft stepped back, and shut the door. He tried to quell the racing of his heart as he stood by the door, listening.
“I’ve been waiting,” the man said, his voice as rough as waves hitting the rocks.
Chapter 1 on AO3!
'On Soft Feet'
21,489 words, rated M. Mystrade, friends to lovers. Written for #Mystrade Is Magic
Magic isn't always a spectacle, a loud display. Sometimes it comes in on soft feet.
When he's 26, Greg receives a fortune card promising him that his true love will be met when he least expects it. Over the years he loses some of his faith in magi, fate and true love, but he never loses the card.
Mycroft was once young and passionate, but heartache and loss, and a lifetime loved in the shadows, at the service of others, has left him lonely. Luckily he makes friends with Greg Lestrade, who will prove to be his greatest friend, his white knight.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Chapters 2 & 3 of my Mystrade is Magic entry - "To The Ocean". Only, um... 4 months after the collection closed?
Enjoy!
I don’t know why I found the Mystrade is Magic month (which has been extended from May into June) so inspiring, but here’s my third story for that event.
“Every Dog Has His Day”
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24490462
Greg Lestrade is turned into a dog during an arrest gone wrong at a magic shop. Sherlock Holmes hides him at the safest place he knows: the home of his brother Mycroft.
Chapter 1 posted. Chapter 2 has been written. Chapter 3 will wrap it up.
Above is my inspiration for Greg as a pooch. Only with brown eyes, of course.
The Difference Between Misfortune and Calamity
My contribution to Mystrade is Magic (May) - I feel like this falls into the sorry not sorry category. It's not magic in the traditional sense of it... but like... wait for it. And before anyone asks, yes, those puns are entirely on purpose... every single one of them.
The Difference Between Misfortune and Calamity
“The difference between a misfortune and a calamity is this: If Gladstone fell into the Thames, it would be a misfortune. But if someone dragged him out again, that would be a calamity.”
~ Benjamin Disraeli
There were a great many things to wonder about Greg Lestrade. Sure he was a workhorse, rather unsinkable, charming, and a bit of a flirt. But more than anything, it made no logical sense that he often found himself where he was...
The Rumor
I’ve posted the first part of my story for Mystrade Is Magic
Prologue
A story in which Mycroft Holmes protects his brother, makes a mistake, apologizes, falls in love, feels very guilty, makes a bigger mistake, comes clean, and gets his happy ending.
MystradeIsMagic Month
Hi, everyone!
May is quickly approaching, our month for Magical Mystrade stories. Writers have had some questions about guidelines for the event, so here they are:
1. The main pairing should be Mystrade
2. It should be a new work that hasn't been posted anywhere yet.
3. "Magic" is a wide range, including superpowers, supernatural themes, magical realism, and magical beings. If you aren't sure, just ask.
4. The collection on AO3 will open May 1, 2020 and you can post your work to the collection through May 31, 2020.
5. You may post a WIP as long as the first chapter is added to the collection by May 31
Please ask if you have any questions, my inbox is open.
