Whoop, amazing, it happened again and I am pissed.
Not a new code, and not a nice topic either and I will be cursing a lot in this whole ass essay, sorry about that. I’m posting this because I am a) a petty bitch, b) incredibly frustrated and drained atp and c) updating my Terms of Use once again (see below/towards the end of this long ass post).
I don’t know why I have to keep repeating myself, but y’all (I'm obviously not talking to all of the amazing people that respect my boundaries and Terms of Use! I think the people I am adressing with this know that I am talking to them. I absolutely adore everybody else, mwah mwah love y'all <3) have no right to steal the content that I am working hard on creating for myself, my friends, and WoX users in general and passing it off as your own. Same goes for other coders and their work btw.
I am fully aware that some of my coding isn’t ideal - I am fully self-taught based on pattern recognition instead of actual tutorials. But that does not mean that you can just take a whole ass profile text that I’ve spent hours and hours of my life layouting and coding and slightly update / ‘improve’ it, presumably using ChatGPT. It also doesn’t mean that you can blatantly upload this code to tumblr as your own work and idea, removing my credits and talking smth about people not being allowed to steal your idea or remove your credits. And it also doesn’t mean that you, when confronted with the pretty clear evidence of you having stolen this code, can just go ‘lol no’ and yap hundreds of words about the codes not looking alike at all (which they clearly do) instead of making a singular clear point to prove your innocence. In germany we say “Halbe Bibel, ganzer Hurensohn”. This wasn’t your idea and those credits weren’t supposed to include your name in the first place, and you not being able to disprove a single point made in 700 words of evidence regarding the clear similarities and obviously copied code snippets, instead answering using AI (because let’s be honest, you can’t read and understand 700 words and write 250 words as an answer addressing the points made in those 700 words in a span of a mere four minutes) speaks for itself.
I’ve had a talk with the coder that I am talking about - not going to name them - and as far as I can tell, they aren’t going to take their post down, apologise or anything else. I’m not going to name anybody because I want this topic to be done with and just wanted to get this off my chest, since this whole topic has been draining me mentally in already difficult times (I need a break y'all). Sorry for being dramatic lmao
But what I am doing is asking everybody else to, if you see a specific code that looks nearly exactly like my ancient god (self-diagnosed) / the cherry on the top profile text (https://www.tumblr.com/e-m-p-y-r-e-a-n/817508911205711872/ancient-god-self-diagnosed-the-cherry-on-the?source=share), not use this code, since it is - in my opinion (and in the opinion of everyone I've asked, and trust me, I’ve asked a lot of people that have a lot of expertise because I didn’t want to accuse someone without reason) - stolen content.
Time for some venting, sorry, but I need to write this down somehow so you can understand where I am coming from and why this whole thing is affecting me so much.
I am so, so drained. It’s been roundabout a year since I started coding and since then, people have stolen my work and passed it off as their own, others have taken my goddamn WoX OCs and recreated them on different WoX Sites, using all of my ideas, thousands of words written about my OCs, and codes made for those OCs specifically, and not changing a single thing about them. People have used other people’s versions of my codes and kept their edits of them and they have stolen whole ass backstories that I’ve written for characters of mine, keeping all of my jokes and the rough plot and only changing small details and bro, atp I’m so, so done with it. All of my codes are free to use, my only requests are a) don't remove my credits and steal my work and b) don't steal my written content if that code was made for a specific OC or WoX job related-thingy. That is it, and people manage to break those two rules constantly.
I really like coding, I love being creative, I love the community and it has become a really beloved hobby of mine, but if shit like this happens again, I’m open to coming up with consequences including taking down all of my posts here, privating my CodePen account and asking people to remove my already existing and distributed codes from WoX.
And while we are at it, this goes out to anyone: Stop using AI when it comes to coding. You can always ask coders instead of ChatGPT, I promise, I can give just as amazing awful advice as ChatGPT does. I also can spread false information and I also believe that I know everything, hit me up lmao
Using AI to code and write stuff for you actively contributes to the death of WoX coding as a form of art.
I also don’t want my work to be fed to AI. I am strongly opposed to generative AI, and if you end up using one of my codes and want to change something in the structure, please just ask me instead of using AI to change the coding. I don’t want that, and I will ban people that feed my codes to AI from using them altogether if I find out about it. New rule for my terms of use, whooo.
I might take a short-ish break from coding, I might not, I don’t even know anymore atp.
And if you see any codes from other coders that look eerily similar or exactly like mine or previously published codes from others, please tell me or them, cuz that is not okay. We’ve lost so many amazing coders to code theft, please try to actively work against that, thank you <3
