Ninety degrees is my favourite angle to shoot at. It’s especially great for smart phone photography because phones have a very wide lens. It’s also a great storytelling angle because you can fit a lot more elements into the frame. It’s easier to compose than a 3/4 or straight on view, so if you’re a budding food photographer, this is a great place to start. It doesn’t work for every type of food shot because it eliminates depth, but it gives a more graphic pop to an image. With the overhead angle, you emphasize the shape of the subject and various elements in the scene.
