TrackMania Nations Forever

Have you played much of the Trackmania series?

It’s a shame Xfire isn’t around anymore; Xfire did a lot of what Steam did with its social features before Steam did. It let you take screenshots, tracked play time, let you chat from an overlay inside of games, etc. As Steam got better, Xfire eventually shut down.

As such, I had this big moment of “Have I played much Trackmania? HEH” and I was gonna show off how I’ve probably put 50-100+ hours in to Trackmania Nations.

Unfortunately that was all in the Xfire days, before Steam started tracking play time. I am also actually talking about Trackmania Nations, which was the f2p release that only contained the Stadium environment.

But yeah, me and my cousin played a lot of Trackmania together back in 2007-2010. He kind of became too busy with life and we sort of wrung most of what we wanted to get out of that game anyway, but I still keep it installed and go back to it on occasion.

I also have Trackmania 2: Canyon and Trackmania 2: Stadium. I remember sending my cousin this video of the open beta for Stadium and him telling me, “That looks like fun.” I don’t know that we’ve ever played Trackmania 2 together.

I’m also less inclined to go back Trackmania 2 in general after their engines got “updated” to have worse visuals and slightly different physics (which broke a bunch of user-made tracks).Ubisoft or Nadeo or whoever really dropped the ball for letting that happen.

I also own Trackmania Turbo on PS4, but I’ll admit I haven’t finished it (as much as a Trackmania game can be considered “finished”) because I don’t know if I like it. It’s nice, I guess, but something about it feels weirdly… hollow.

But yeah, back in my day, I want to say I was in the top 50 players in Colorado for Trackmania United. So, yeah, I’ve played a bit.
