Fic recs for Usopp pairings except Luffy/Usopp and Zoro/Usopp

For @blackusopp and anyone else taking an interest! Er, these are mostly pretty old because I haven't gone looking for fics as much in the last few years. My recs for Luffy/Usopp and Zoro/Usopp fics have already been posted. (See the tag "myficrecs" on my blog if you're curious.) There's a lot more than these out there, many of which I haven't read! Especially for Sanji/Usopp, which I think is probably the most popular Usopp ship overall.

(One might think from this list that I don't like Usopp/Kaya, but I do! It's just that I can't remember at the moment any particular fic with that pairing that really stayed with me.)

I actually only know one fic for this ship, and it's very brief, but nice: Reconciliation by chibi-trillian. PG-13. Post-Enies Lobby but written before the real crew reunion took place in canon

Five's Bad Company by Guardian 1. Author's summary: "It's indecently hard to get privacy on this ship. Luckily, nobody wants it. Nobody ships like Nami ships". Note: I read this fic fairly early on in the fandom and loved it. It struck a chord in how I like to approach Strawhats shipping in general, I think.

The Lies That Bind by Guardian1. Fifty onesentence challenge for this pairing, with perhaps just a hint of Merryshipping as well.

Something Worth Saving by Loniceraa Japonica. Brief ficlet, set after Arlong Park.

Turnabout Is Not Fair Play by spiderflower. Hard R. Before you click on this one, I should warn you that this is replete with Water 7 angst and does not end in happy fluff. Both characters are in a bad place here, especially Usopp, but Nami's not in the best state of mind either. They both do and say some pretty messed-up things. But it's well-written stuff if one is in the mood for dark-tinted angst.

Sanji/Usopp

All Very Romantic by tFantasyFan. Author's summary: "The first consideration and the first acknowledgment of the desire. Kissing, Sanji-style."

Ashes NC-17 and That Other First Time by Tonko. Both of these are NC-17 and part of a Vampire Sanji AU where the main couple is really Sanji/Zoro: Sanji and Usopp are very close FWB here. You can also find them on AO3 as part of this series.

Happy by Lonicera Japonica. Author's summary: "It takes a lot to make Sanji really laugh."

In Good Hands by Tonko. Hurt/comfort: Sanji gets a massage, and gets lucky.

Music Box by midnightdiddle. (PG-13, Sanji/Usopp) Two castaway pirates start going nuts. Set early on in the canon (before Chopper joins).

Sanji/Usopp/Zoro (This pairing used to be known as "Red Shirt Trio" on the old LJ fandom once upon a time)

Pathetic Excuse For a Flirt, Really, But At Least He Smells Good by runic-binary. Short and funny to the prompt "vanilla".

Yes, He Could by plotbunny-tiff. R. Getting Zoro to truly unwind is no mean feat. Note: Another fic that's influenced me a lot. It's fairly short, but the intimate atmosphere in this one just stuns me. When I wrote my own fic with this pairing much later on, I kept comparing it to this one and felt mine fell short...

Here is a supercute pairing idea that doesn’t get much love,which is pretty sad… Though that seems to be the trend with Usopp centeredthings—and even Nami centered things really … but that’s a discussion foranother time.

For the pairing itself, they are practically girlfriendsalready! I kid mostly, but it’s also true. No one else on the crew understandsbeing a squishy human better than these two do—moreover, being a squishy humanwith more or less regular human needs, ambitions and stamina. They are the onesthat shake their head in exasperation at Luffy’s antics or otherwise stranglehim for trying to get them into more. So this level of mutual understandingreally appeals to me.

For a realistic relationship given their nature, I think itwould be a little rocky at first, given Nami’s nature to keep herself toherself. She is not one that opens herself up easily. Yes, she will be nakamawith Usopp, but love or at least relationships are an entirely differentballgame. But the important thing here is that Usopp understands this, and heunderstands Nami—and he views Nami as someone on his level. (She is notmassively stronger and accepts/understands him as he is) 

So I can see him beingpatient with her and even trying to gently tease her to get under her guard.Once they got going, I think they would be super cute and lightly romantic, butdiscreetly—since Nami has a need to be in control over the image she projects.Even that would relax in time, though, and I can see them going shopping andholding hands or lightly kissing in doorways. It would be a very traditionalromance because I think, at heart, Usopp is a very traditional person—and Namicertainly won’t say no to the normality.

So as to the pairing itself? I super approve. I can see it.I can ship it. And I wish I could see more of it.

There’s a long held belief that this couple is practicallycanon… and I can’t say that I don’t agree!

They just have this weird kind of chemistry and have had itpretty much since Enies Lobby. I think it’s because they’re both adults andthey both understand pain. I think also that Franky understands Robin withouther having to say much. He doesn’t know much about her, or really anything, buthe doesn’t have to know about her to guess her plans/spirit/attitude. AndRobin, being intensely private as she is, really appreciates that. 

I think shealso really appreciates Franky’s general weirdness (to a point. That he cancross a line with her makes it a healthy relationship imo) and his attitude oftaking life how it comes. He’s a pretty calm dude, when all is said and doneand she trusts him. He obviously trusts her as well and sees how much she hasto deal with and appreciates her weirdness (to a point) and of course finds herattractive, and I think vice versa.

Hell, I can’t even be sure they’re not in a relationship, becauseif they were it would be very discreet. Franky is not the kind to broadcast hisbusiness (even if he broadcasts his junk in that speedo) and Robin is secretiveanyway. They would find ways to keep anyone from knowing about it and if theyallude to it in public, it would only be in the form of in-jokes andsignificant looks – without them oneupping each other. What I mean is, Frankycan fluster Robin just as much as she can do him. Which is another reason theywork so well together. They’re evenly matched in their way.

I remember Oda has said in an SBS that Franky was like thefather of the crew and Robin the mother and I can really see that dynamic intheir relationship. Plus,  I mean,/gestures to the above  pic/ how cute isthat?

Out of all the ships I ship, this is the one I’m most convincedwill make it to endgame. Sorry,CC.
