What if when Artemis stops laughing after explains things to Butler and complimenting the Father’s Day message that he suddenly jolts up and realises that NANNI may have also sent a certain someone a Mother’s Day message earlier that year which he didn’t hear about (being in space), and his face is all ‘Oh no.’

You have probably stumbled upon the best headcanon of the Artemis Fowldom. This is all pure gold and I cannot tell you how much I laughed reading all this. You are entirely on point!! NANNI sends Artemis a Happy Father’s Fay message in space — Butler, who does not know about NANNI, sees it first. With him not knowing she’s an AI at first, what do you think would go through his (Butler’s) head for those first few moments before asking Artemis (if he even does that, unless he decides there is probably a reason Artemis hasn’t said anything to him, in which case he will wait or hint at it, in all likelihood leading an obvious Artemis not to say anything on the topic over the course of all their years in space)?? I had this thought this morning and it is not leaving me alone.

I think the message would be something along the lines of 

“Happy Father’s Day to my creator, and the one who has played a key role in my existence and made me who I am today. Enjoy your day, Father!”

And obviously NANNI sounds like Holly, right, so the very false realisation just hits Butler like a truck and he’s just like “WHY IS THAT HOLLY TALKING LIKE ARTEMIS? WAIT ARTEMIS ISN’T HOLLY’S DAD? I’M NOT A DAD? SO THIS IS FOR ARTEMIS? WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT DID I MISS??? DID THIS HAPPEN WHEN ARTEMIS WENT BACK IN TIME???” and he’s trying to figure out when exactly all this took place and stuff and internally freaking out and thinking of Angeline and Artemis Senior.

And then Artemis Fowl walks out of the bathroom with a bed head and his clothes are rumpled and he’s just woken up and he goes “Butler, could you help me with the toothpaste please?” because he can’t squeeze it hard enough for some toothpaste to come out.

And Butler’s face is like: 🤔😶🫢😟😳🤯😨😰😱🥵🥶😶‍🌫️😶

And he goes: “Sure.” BUT HIS VOICE SQUEAKS AND ARTEMIS IS LIKE “Is everything alright?” AND BUTLER, WHO HAS THE BEST POKER FACE, SQUEAKS AGAIN AND SAYS “Uh huh?” AND ARTEMIS SEES LOOKS BEHIND BUTLER AND SEES SOMETHING SAYING “Happy Father’s Day” ON THE SCREEN BEHIND HIM AND REALISES WHAT NANNI DID AND WHAT BUTLER THOUGHT AND JUST FALLS APART LAUGHING AND BUTLER IS LIKE “WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???”

Anon this is the best thing I’ve received all day and I love you for this. I wanna know what everyone else thinks Butler’s reactions would be too!!

I mean, NANNI is an AI made from mixing Holly’s and Artemis’ brainwaves together, and is sentient, so does meet the definition of offspring. It’s been a huge thing in the fandom (those who read the new books) and how either of them would react if this was pointed out to them, because you know it didn’t occur to Artemis at all when he was making her.

Oh that’s actually really interesting! So NANNI is technically their offspring! Thank you so much anon :)

I’ve always had this image of NANNI calling the LEP looking for Holly and Trouble Kelp answers not know they’re an AI at first because it’s a call, and him to ask why she’s looking for her, possibly attempting to flirt at first, then NANNI to say that Holly’s her mother, Trouble to pause, ask if she’d sure, ask who her father is, be told Artemis Fowl, and then (still not knowing they’re an AI) really puzzlingly sort of call the Haven tabloids while recording the conversation.
