Yukiya, has been winning the popularity contest since 2020, in all iterations (from the top: Chisato Abe’s cutout image; followed by original cover design, hardcover and paperback, from Satomi Naemura, Natsuki’s latest rendition of the paperback, and mangaka’s Natsumi Matsuzaki). The author has been putting this boy in different situations, difficult ones, in different stages of grief. And for how long.

In the "Yatagarasu Series" character popularity poll, Yukiya is overwhelmingly popular. His initial appearance started from a paper cutout created by Chisato Abe.

"It's an image that ignores settings like costumes and transformations. There's no mistake in the images that come to mind when reading the novel! I'd also love to see the readers' images," says Chisato Abe.

The new paperback cover of "The Crow Does Not Choose Its Lord" by Naoyuki, the hardcover and existing paperback by Satomi Naemura, and the comic by Natsumi Matsuzaki starting serial publication on August 25th each have a different atmosphere depending on the author. Readers, please expand your own images as well!

The original book designer Satomi Naemura held her exhibitions last year. She has her website where one can subscribe to see her other works and behind the scenes posts about the book series.

Lastly, the anime character designer Takumo Norita’s rendition of Yukipi.

“You’re a person,” the guy says. “A real person.” His eyes are dark and flat, devoid of light.

“Yeah,” Gabriel says, voice sounding muted, even to himself. “I guess I am.”

The guy’s smile, clumsy and flat, strains at the edges. “I knew you were a real person. I carried you earlier, but you’re awake now. A real person. A real, awake person.”

Gabriel nods slowly, flinching back when the guy puts a pallid hand to his face, cool fingertips ghosting over his scales.

“A real, awak person,” he murmurs.
