Sneaky Naps
Heat X Reader
You keep sneaking off for naps, and Kid can't fuckin' find you. It's so easy for Heat to figure you out though, and he ends up being your little nap guardian.
"Oops, she says, like this hasn't been driving Kid mad for the past few days." Heat chuckled. "… No wonder you'd come back from naps with those marks." Without really thinking, he extended a hand and cupped your cheek, running his thumb over the indents left by the rope of the hammock. You had frozen completely, heart fluttering at his surprisingly gentle touch. He could feel the warmth of your cheek in his palm, ever increasing in temperature and saturation. "Your face was always very telling of where you slept, and not because of your expressions." He added.

a/n~ this is just a silly lil idea i had in the back of my mind i rlly wanted to get out, not beta'd, mind the jumbled mess that is my brain.
You were getting a little too good at finding sneaky spots to take some decently long naps in, making up for your recent lack of sleep over the last couple days. The amount of work you evaded was impressive, and Kid started to notice it. It pissed him off that you were better at it than him. He could never find you, nor could Killer, so they resorted to reaching out to someone else for help with trying to deal with you, and Heat found himself dragged into it next.
"Help me find her, at the very least. It's pissin' me off" Kid grumbled after explaining the situation to Heat.
"It's actually impressive. Getting away with so many naps and* making Kid do more work? Hilarious, honestly." Killer commented.
"Fuck you." Kid spat.
Killer only laughed in response, earning a middle finger from Kid. Heat suppressed his chuckle as not to earn one for himself, clearing his throat to keep it together.
"I can try and help you find her, but have you considered that she's moving every time?" Heat pointed out. "It would be a poor choice to keep choosing the same spot when trying to avoid you."
"… Fucker." Kid cursed.
"I'll still look, since you can't find her." Heat said, accidentally letting a chuckle slip out.
"Fuck y'all.""
Kid gave up, knowing he'd be teased no matter what. He'd put up with it if it meant he'd catch you slacking off. He knew about your little crush on Heat, so he hoped you'd be more inclined to open up to him about your secret sleeping spots. He figured it'd be a hard task, but to Heat, nothing simpler could have been asked of him.
"Give me a few days. I'll figure out where she hides and solve the problem." Heat promised.
"You sound confident. Good. Keep me updated." Kid grumbled, stomping off to go sulk somewhere else.
"You've already got ideas, hey?" Killer asked.
"A couple, yeah. I just want to quietly confirm some things before I go after her." Heat nodded.
"Hah, have fun." Killer chuckled, leaving to help calm Kid's attitude.
He had lots of ideas honestly, but he needed to watch you for a bit to confirm and find your pattern, suspecting that you changed where you took your naps every time to avoid getting caught, perhaps even taking them in multiple places, always on the move after an hour or so. Now you probably would tell him if he asked, but he was admittedly… nervous, so he opted to observe for a while instead. With how often you changed your sleep spot, you were bound to have a pattern. He had time.
He said he needed a few days, but he really only needed one, maybe a couple extra hours of observing here and there. By the end of the first day he had already figured out where you had been napping. He didn't even have to go looking for you to figure out the first few times. Whenever you came back from a nap to do at least a few chores, he would see the answer quite literally written on your face.
Written, imprinted; same difference in this context. Wherever you slept, your face and arms would old the indents of whatever it was you slept against. Sometimes it was the wood grain of storage crates, other times it was rope from netting or hammocks; hell he'd even seen you with the imprint of a specific doormat on your cheek. Your hiding spots were so comically simple Heat wondered how Kid hadn't noticed you in any of these places yet, or why Killer hadn't picked up on the imprints in your skin. Then again… He was one of the few who paid such close attention to you, and the only one who lingered long enough on your face to notice something so small.
"Such a silly girl… So obvious when you look closely." Heat huffed. "But so good at hiding. Never leaving a trace…"
He remained in thought for a while longer, deciding not to pursue you right away. He wanted to think more about how you got away with some of these spots, so he slept on it, leaving the details for the next day. He would check one of the spots he was most curious about when he woke up, hoping to maybe catch you in the act.
You were quite true to your habits now, disappearing an hour before noon and skipping out on some nasty chores. Kid still couldn't find you, giving up upon Heat's request for him to do so. Heat reassured his captain that you would be found in time, and dealt with accordingly. He did not specify how, but figured if he offered to do the task himself it would be better that the inevitable delegation of all Kid's chores to your task list for weeks on end. You listened to Heat better anyway.
Sure enough, an hour passed and you hadn't come back yet. Normally you would be back after an hour, rarely two, but after an extra half hour had passed, Heat's curiosity began to grow. You must've been really tired to still be boldly napping away if you were. He was going to have to have a conversation with you about your sleep schedule, and possible insomnia; there would be some scolding to come for you.
"Let's try… The hammock first." Heat mumbled to himself, wandering over to where the boys had strung up a network of hammocks for the nice weather.
It was the one place he wanted to check the most when he saw woven rope patterns imprinted on your cheeks, because whenever he walked by here himself, he never saw you. Plus there were heaps of blankets on the things, so it didn't exactly make sense to see such marks on you in the first place. He had hoped he might find you here to see how you hid so well, and that hoping paid off, unaware that you had chosen to return here for yet another nap on account of it being your favourite place so far.
Heat stood there for a moment, looking over the few hammocks that were strung up before him. All of them were draped in a few thick blankets, so he stood there and pondered how you got those rope marks when there was so much padding to cover the netting. He got his answer though, and in the silliest way possible too when a pile of blankets moved a bit. His eyes widened, ten he snorted, doing his best not to laugh too loudly when he realized where you were and what you had been doing.
He approached the hammock with the suspicious movement, bent down, and lifted the blankets up to reveal the mess that was you napping beneath them all smushed into the netting. You looked up at him with tired eyes, blinking away the blur caused by the sudden sunlight that fell upon you. Still quite groggy, you couldn't exactly tell why there was suddenly sunlight shining on you, but then you heard his voice; sweet, smooth, and a hint of a chuckle laced between his words.
"I see you've taken a liking to this place for hiding. Kid would never check here."
"Ah… Fuck. I've been caught." You sighed with a scratchy voice.
"You have been indeed." He nodded, kneeling down next to you. "You're not in trouble though. Not from me, at least."
"Aw, I'm honoured." You huffed, stretching big. "What gave me away though?"
"Blankets tend not to move on their own."
"… Oops."
"Oops, she says, like this hasn't been driving Kid mad for the past few days." Heat chuckled. "… No wonder you'd come back from naps with those marks."
Without really thinking, he extended a hand and cupped your cheek, running his thumb over the indents left by the rope of the hammock. You had frozen completely, heart fluttering at his surprisingly gentle touch. He could feel the warmth of your cheek in his palm, ever increasing in temperature and saturation.
"Your face was always very telling of where you slept, and not because of your expressions." He added.
"A-ah, I've got fishnet face then huh?" You chuckled dryly, realizing your face had indents.
Your description made him chuckle again, noting how you didn't shy away from his touch.
"Don't worry. It's cute." He hummed. "Though probably not very comfy…"
"It's… not." You admitted. "Anything for a nap and to keep Kid on his toes, I guess."
"Hah! Well, there's far better places to be sleeping that are safe from Kid."
"Oh yeah? Like where?" You inquired, wondering what he was truly implying.
"Well… Uhm…" He paused, starting to look a bit embarrassed now himself. "You could rest with me so you stop waking up with a surface texture on you. I'll tell Kid to leave if he tries to bug you."
After his offer, there was an awkward silence that followed. You looked over at him with wide eyes and got nervous.
"Sorry, that was a dumb idea ri-!"
"Kid, woke me up." You interrupted. "He came up here two times looking for me and his loud ass kept me wide awake. He never found me cuz he's a fool, but if you join me like you offered, I wouldn't have to go rigid and hold my breath."
You had casually rolled up onto your side and back up on top of the blankets, looking far more inviting now that you weren't trying to hide beneath the blankets. The hammock itself was already quite large, so there was plenty of room for him to easily slide in next to you and follow through on his offer. When you raised a brow at him, he knew this was his one and only chance, so he mumbled a quiet 'alright' before he crawled in next to you. That was when you tossed one of the many blankets over both of you, boldly cradling yourself up against his side, nestling in the folds of the blankets.
"Mmn… Warm…" You mumbled, unintentionally out loud.
Heat did his best to not react and pretend he didn't hear, but you were loud and clear to him. He was honestly quite relieved that you were too shy to show your face right now, realizing that his own face had started to turn a deep red. At least you wouldn't see that.
"You sure got comfy real quick." He commented, wrapping his arm around you to keep you close.
"Mm, so what? I'm still tired." You mumbled.
"And why is that? You've been so tired lately. Are you sleeping alright?" Heat then asked.
"… No, actually. I'm not used to how loud y'all can snore yet. And I lost my ear plugs…" You grumbled, sinking further into him and the blankets.
He couldn't stop himself from laughing this time, agreeing that it was a horrible thing to hear most of the time. "Well, I promise I'm one of the few who don't snore."
"I hope… cuz I'm gettin' real tired again… and I don't wanna be woken up…"
You hardly got your words out before you found it too heard to hold your head up, a vignette of black invading your vision. Heat watched as you gave in and rested your head against his shoulder, a hand splayed across his chest. He tugged the blanket a little tighter, supporting you and keeping you close. You dozed off with incredible speed, proving just how tired you really were, and confirming that you were definitely were being kept up by obnoxious snoring. No wonder you napped as much as you did.
"Damn, you were not kidding when you said you were tired." Heat mumbled, cradling you gently. "… So cute…"
He took this rare chance to admire you being so willingly vulnerable before him, trusting him and his word to keep Kid away. He had to now. He simply had to, and he wouldn't have to wait long to have to do that. Without much time to think on what he would say in that situation, Heat was put on the spot about half an hour later when Kid stomped up. He had to make the split second decision to tell his own captain to shush, the world around them falling deathly silent with shock.
"Traitor." Kid hissed in a whisper. "I don't even know why I'm listening to you."
"I've learned some things, and I'm gonna handle it. Just let it slide one more time, please?" Heat pleaded.
"… Fine. Only if she returns to her duties tomorrow." Kid agreed. "You're a damn softie."
"Yeah yeah, sure. I'll make it happen." He mumbled, shifting as little when you started to turn in your sleep.
"… You're lucky you look cute together. Fuckin- damn." He grumbled, mostly mad that he couldn't give you hell while Heat was protecting you. He wasn't about to stop one of his best mates from falling in love; not when the look on his face had never seemed so calm before.
Kid took his leave, the calm silence returning to the area once more. Your shifting had stopped, and soon Heat grew tired as well. He was worried things would have been worse, but it all went smoothly, and that wave of relief brought with it a wave of fatigue. He was envious of how peaceful you looked, and soon dozed off alongside to to join you in that peace. A nap sou sounded perfect right now anyway.
And nap he did. For three whole hours. Kid kept his word and left the two of you alone for the rest of the day, allowing such a peaceful occasion to happen. It felt natural to have you curled up against his side, slow breaths showing just how at ease you were with him. This moment was one he thought he'd only ever experience in his dreams, and in his own sleep, he clung to you a lot tighter than he meant to, but just couldn't help himself.
After all that time resting you were the first to awake, squirming a little in his now much gentler hold with a stretch and a yawn. Lifting your head from his chest, you blinked your eyes until your vision cleared, remembering where you were, and who you were with. A scarlet heat invaded your cheeks again for a moment; but then you saw how peaceful he looked, and that was enough to put you at ease. He kept his word and kept you safe, letting you sleep while getting in some rest for himself.
"Thanks, sweetie." You hummed, unable to stop yourself from placing a sweet kiss on his nose.
After your gesture, he stirred, and let slip a small groan as he woke up shortly after you. his eyes rested on your face, focused on your sweet smile that you gave him.
"Good morning…" He mumbled, reaching a hand up to cup on of your cheeks.
"It's almost sunset." You chuckled, leaning into his palm. "You seem quite comfy with the idea of waking up next to me."
He knew you were teasing him, so with a soft chuckle, he poked right back at you. "Mmm, and are you trying to say that you're so very chill about it yourself, miss kisses me upon waking up?"
"You… I thought you were asleep…" You mumbled.
"I was, for the most part. Then I heard your voice, and felt your lips." He recited. "You missed, by the way. C'mere."
He gently encouraged you to come closer with the hand on your cheek, but never forced you. When you followed his nervous touch, his heart skipped a beat, taking that as permission to kiss you so sweetly in the orange glow of the evening sun. You sunk into him with a hum, kissing him a couple times more before you his your face in the crook of his neck again, so overwhelmed with emotion you just had to hide yourself, even for a moment.
"You're even cuter when you're embarrassed." He chuckled, rubbing small circles on your back. "So, can I assume you like the idea of being with me, hey?"
"Mmhmm. I like it a lot. I'd like to make being in your arms a bit more of a regular thing in my schedule, if you're alright with that. Maybe I'd sleep better more often…" You said quietly.
"I'd love that. I'd rather you come to me instead of sneak off to sleep in such uncomfortable places." He noted.
"Yeah, your chest is a much better place to sleep." You agreed, making him blush.
"You just have to do me one small favor." He started slowly. "Starting tomorrow, you have to get back on your duties."
You groaned audibly, earning a squeeze from him.
"But you can go to bed earlier, in my room, where it's quieter, and I'll be there to cuddle you some more…" He started to ramble.
This made you laugh, lifting your head to kiss his jaw. "That sounds like a steal of a deal to me. Count me in."
You both started to laugh at each other now, content with where you were at. Though both of you were bad with words, it didn't take much to saw a few simple words.
"Hey Heat, I love you."
"I love you too." He huffed, proving to be the one who flustered more easily in the moment.
"You really are just a big softie."
