நர்த்தகி | NARTHAKI (2011) dir. Vijayapadma Kalki, a trans classical dance artist, recounting her life's story to a journalist. The child of a strict father and a home-maker with a keen interest in dance, she grew up watching her mother, often copying her with the help of her best friend and cousin Meena. As Kalki grows she discovers her attraction to men, rejects Meena's well-meaning advances, and runs away from home in search of a place that would accept her for who she is. (link in title)

Narthaki | The Dancer

Recently extracted the original files of some of my prized old photos, and re-edited them. Some of my favorite shots of my gorgeous friend A as she is preparing for a Bharatanatyam (a form of Indian Classical Dance) recital. The very first shots of Narthaki: The Dancer series! They're kind of grainy, which I love because they remind me of vintage photos :)
