It really is a shame how much nothing Kaguya turned out to be in Naruto because it'd be SO easy to make her an interesting enough final villain if you just do 3 things 1. Give her a better backstory that doesn't involve aliens. 2. actually foreshadow her before the final arc. and 3. Give her a personality beyond big floaty lady that hates people being awake. This story starts in a land so old, it's name has been forgotten. In this land, there was a young noblewoman with one innocuous ability that would reshape the world: She could turn into any animal. She most took the form of a fox, she loved foxes, but snails, birds, any creature that called the earth home, she could become.

One day, while she was tending to her estate's gardens, she noticed three animals locked in a duel: a snake, a slug, and a toad. Being a kind girl that hated violence of any kind, she used her abilities to take each of their forms and try to convince them to stop fighting. When she took their forms, she could see each of their needs and perspectives, and, using her knowledge of diplomacy, brokered an armistice between their clans. But they had knowledge to teach her as well, and with that shared knowledge of the three clans, and her own perspective as a human, she noticed the natural flowing energy that flowed between all. And tapped into it. And she became a god.

Her hair and skin turned white as the moon, her eyes filled rings and tomoe and power. And with this power and her knowledge, she did the same thing she did with her father and the other local liege lords. She made the fighting stop. And it was glorious for a time. She grew, and took a husband and had two baby boys. She loved her boys, so she taught them everything she knew about this new power called senjutsu. Though only one of them, Hagaromo had the same type of power as her, the other, Homura, had a different sort of power altogether, born not from nature but his own soul, that he named chakra.

And each of these boys grew and had dynasties of their own, and taught each of their children and citizenry how to use chakra, as it seemed senjutsu had the not slight chance to petrify normal humans. Hagaromo, using his power over nature, made his fields prosper. but one day, a farmer, normal though taught chakra to water his crops, murdered a neighboring farmer from Hagaromo's territory, and took his money and land. And all of the fighting started again, only worse this time, as so many now had power. Kaguya seeing her gift, her knowledge, being uses to murder hundreds, and it disgusted her. So she took a new form. monstrous, completely of her own mind, and with one goal:seek out and destroy anyone possessing chakra. It might not stop the fighting, but at least no one will pervert her gift again. The two boys, now wizened elders saw what their mother had become, and hardened their hearts for what had to be done. They tore her soul from her body and crushed it to pieces. One took her corpse and took it to where it would never be disturbed. The other took her soul fragments and crafted them into her favorite animals. he carved the largest into a fox, her favorite. Then a bull. a beetle, and so on. and new beings were born from them, young and hopeful.

But what you don't know is 3 things

The first is that she is not dead. She is senjutsu boy, as long as winds blow, as rivers run, as trees live, she is a fact of life as sure as the air in your lungs.

The second is that Kaguya, not wanting her beloved to perish, made him an immortal body, and he very much misses his wife. All he has to do is combine her fragments and body in one place.

The third is that Kaguya, being nature energy itself, can see all of what humans have done with her gift. all the wars, all the atrocities. and she is not happy

I think it's funny that Zetsu is such an... unpopular character but I wonder if it's just because people are confused at what the hell is going on there. Like sure. Plant guy. Oh he's actually a clone. Oh there's actually an army of him. Oh he's actually infused with Hashirama's DNA. Oh he's actually
