this doesn't go public for another few hours but the zero people who will see this before it does wont even know what camp so it doesn't matter
hi im a teenage girl who works at a nature lodge at a camp in the summer ive been working there for years and since staff lives together for like two months theyre like family when i go to camp, i get up at 6:30 in the morning after going to sleep around 12 or 1am and im busy from 7am to 9pm every day some days its after 9pm we get up and do the flag ceremony and eat breakfast and set up program which is 9am to around 3pm and sometimes its til 5pm if your area has open program that day and i teach kids about rocks and minerals and erosion and dinosaurs and fossils and animal sounds and tracks and the animals we have in the lodge (we catch and release our animals every year from whats on property) and we might do a turtle race and i do that again until lunch then i do it again after for each session and if they have a second day we teach the greenhouse and the bug house and when program is over we do work projects until flags and dinner and sometimes we do work projects after dinner and the last day of the kids stay is chose your own adventure where the areas have all sorts of things to do and leaders chose what the kids do and they build their own schedule and the nature lodge usually does cubs who care and the river tour with some a-quad staff and my personal favorite, tracking, and their last night we have closing campfire where the packs can sign up to do a song or skit and staff does songs and skits inbetween and when all the songs and skits are done staff lines up and sings vespers as the scouts walk away and the nature lodge does a night hike and nav does a storytelling session and the rest of staff do humpty dumpty where we circle up and clap a beat singing (closer to chanting ig) “hump ty dump hump hump ty dump hump ty dump hump hump ty dump say what” and in-between each of those someone goes in the middle and says smth like “mary had a little lamb the doctor was surprised” and other variants and some things ppl say every time and theres smth we have to do with it like singing “its a small world” as all the short people go in the middle and ending with “so get off my world” as we try to intimitate tall ppl and we respond the same but saying “its a tall world” and when people finish in the circle we say “huh aint that funky now” and go back to the chanting and clapping and eventually some admin steps in and says goodnight or its girls shower hour or some other news and from 9-11 its free time essentially and i can go on a walk with my best friend or talk with a group of friends or sit in the dining hall and play games or watch videos or whatever and we do that every day all summer except for the days we check people in and staff weeks where its all work projects and getting ready and shut down week/weekend where its all putting things away for next year and we get nights off where we go to Walmart and fuck around or to some food place like wawa or the energy station or taco bell and bring food back for staff who wanted stuff and we have a Christmas in july event where everyone has a secret santa and theres tons of snacks and we put up a chrismas tree with oradments from all the program areas and we decorate the dining hall and play chrismas music over the speakers with a fire on the projector bc we don't have an actual fireplace and some times admin just does nice things for us like open pool time or pizza and a bonfire or open boating or .22s and shotguns at the rifle range or open archery or chances to tie dye our shirts bc we have certain days were we wear tie dye shirts or hawaiian shirts or oa day with the oa sashes which is the day of the overnighter where scoutcraft takes a bunch of aol’s hiking somewhere (usually the garrison field but sometimes the archery field) to pitch tents and cook dinner and whatever else they do on the overnighter and we don't get paid much but ig that ensures that we aren't there for the money right and sometimes its hard and sometimes its stressful mostly for directors or admin and you might want to cry from smth mean that an angry dad said but theres always that kind mom and her kid to tell you they've been coming to camp for years and they love it and its not fair of that guy to expect us to stop the rain or smth so his campsite isn't muddy and theres always the staff kudos usually written by the kids with their wobbly letters and their kind words to the one with the glasses at or the girl at or the tall one at and the parents who tell admin about the lovely staff and the kids you see every year growing before your eyes and they packs that always come back and the leaders who are friends with the staff and invite us to their campfires and give us food bc we legally cant accept anything else and some staff love camp for the kids, some for it being a summer job, some for being with their friends, some for being away from home, some for being in the woods, and some, like me, who are there for all of it camp is my safe place my home the only place ive even been where just being in the vicinity makes me peaceful i drive the road through camp and im happy, i step foot on property and im gleeful, i stay the summer and im elated, theres nothing bad for me at camp, i mean sure theres always the annoying kid in a pack or the pack that doesn't stop talking long enough for you to teach or the parent whos mean or whatever else might not be the ray of your sun but im not asking it to be perfect, i don't expect it to be, i just want it to be there when i need it and it always has
until now
council cancelled all camps
so these people who work full time overseeing stuff for my camp and the other one in council and all the people who work at the camps and the shop and work with the districts and the packs and troops and crews that are within, these very important, very hardworking people whos priority is always safety, have determined that any in person camping experience is too much of a hazard to conduct and i understand and respect that
but it doesn't stop me from being devastated
it dosent stop me from being angry
two weeks ago we had a zoom call saying we still have jobs and its just going to be a little different this summer, today we have no jobs and im panicing
aha I have remembered
good witch reminded me of that time I got laryngitis during fall fest and I spent the whole weekend working in different areas that just needed a hand bc I couldn't teach nature without talking
see I had completely lost my voice and while I know some sign language it wasn't enough and not many people know asl anyway (it should totally be taught in schools tho) and the health officer told me I couldn't drink any coffee either so I was strictly hot tea
my boss is my favorite adult
I work at the nature lodge of a cub scout summer camp and this one guy was the nature director for five years before becoming the program director and since ive worked at camp hes always been my boss and my favorite adult ever because I can (and I do) just text him with things like “do centaurs count as insects” “aren't antennae just bug whiskers” and “are dragons considered lizards or are they a different species entirely” and we’ll have full conversations about the specifics of it all and hes also my favorite because sometimes he’ll send me like a dozen pictures of mutant furbies or animal faces photoshopped onto other animals and hes given me a bunch of rocks and minerals and a deer skull and every year he buys string and clips and some animal claw for the nature staff necklaces and last year he made the entire nature staff personalized little nature bags to go on our belts with pockets and jars and bags and stuff and he handsewed pieces of hide he tanned himself with a waxy twine kinda thing and yes I cried about it that's the sweetest thing anyone has done and probably will ever do for me and when he was just a director he was still in with admin and when he found out information he would tell us because he doesn't think admin should keep secrets from the staff if it concerns them and that was part of why he was such a great program director
Nature Lodge, a splendid hideaway spreads over 7 hectares of verdant countryside of Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri, offers the best leisure time for your weekend retreat. Let’s take a look!
Established in 2007 by a lovely couple, the accommodation is a set of eco-friendly bungalows where you may find interesting and relent, aim at nature-loving travelers looking to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life (for a while). It is also an effort to maintain “environmental friendliness, fair employment and ethical practice”, provide “ethical employment, language and vocational tourism training to locals in Sen Monorom”.
Bungalows
If you’ve been to the Central Highland of Vietnam, you may find it similar but I bet it just bears resemblance to the exterior features, not interior designs. That’s the case here:
The rustic cabins are made of reclaimed wood details, from walls to roof, staircase to log table by the balcony, gentle breezes blowing softly on a hammock where guests may love to take a glance at horses below greeting with echoed whinnies through the trees.

Step inside and don’t let the furnishing amaze you as it did to me. So gorgeous vintage findings, including a fabulous cushioned-wooden bed accompanied by a white mosquito curtains above.
The bathroom is super cool that you would love it for the first time seeing. Good furnishings with tasteful decoration makes it an unforgettable moment during your staying there. The water is heated by bio-gas so it takes a little time to be ready.
With plenty of space between cottages, you may get lost for the first time trying to navigate. Admittedly, so did I, especially at night where the light is scarce (true, we used our headlight or smartphone to light up the environment all the time, it is quite interesting). No worries, you would get used to it quickly on day.
Tree top café
Another amazing corner when you stay at Nature Lodge. There’s great charm in many of the lodge’s well-thought out details, particularly the bar, as well as the tree top balcony. Chilling out with friends by the pools is the best to kill time. I even borrowed a guitar and we had a wonderful acoustic night. So great!

I’ve never been to any places like this before, truly live among nature, all wooden parts, the small statue with mysterious smile, cushion lounges, tables and chairs on the high decks overlooking the surrounding canopy of forest and garden views.
The Nature Lodge tree tops café & kitchen opens daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, serving a variety of Western, classic Khmer and Thai cuisine. The lounge offers free wifi 24/7 so it’s perfect if your would like to reconnect to the world while looking for relaxation, meals or refreshments.
Facilities
Guests tend to come for a couple of days to relax over leisurely dining or merely short-term stop on their around-the-world trip. Become a big fan of the lodge or you will be tired out by running around the expansive property for photography or pleasedly strolling for a summer sunset or a fresh dawn. Such a chilled-out vibe.
Also, the bar is perfect for leisurely relaxation. You can play billiards, guitar with friends or sipping a drink for a peaceful morning, or just swinging on a hammock while recollecting beautiful wanderlust memories. It is all wooden, with vintage-styled orange lighting, impressively cute and very unique.

Although the lodge is officially open, it’s not 100 percent: there’s still quite a lot under construction, like new bungalows. In other words, there’s still a presence of equipment and noise that’s definitely annoying.
Afterall, it is beautifully preserved natural landscape, amongst thousands of native trees and many fruit trees (avocados, then you see!) that have been planted for years in order to restore deforested areas. Such an immersive green world!

The premises also provides large grass areas and communal fire places, an open space for group activities. We did campfire there with grilled shrimps, seasoned meat and beer, making so loud that the host gently reminded us to keep quiet (Oh, I was so sorry but, it was so exciting for any first-time experience).
Service
Travelers could find the staff is so friendly that it’s hard to be grumpy. Any of the attendants would be happy to offer you a stroll back to the bungalow after dinner, in case you get lost.
You may note that the room service attendants are not English-proficient so you are advised to contact the bartender for specific help.
Hardly find a flock of travelers, no, particularly on weekends, means, you will get peaceful corner for yourself, if that’s what you’re after.
Conclusion
I love the lodge for the very first time staying. Its nature beats me up with love that we had a wonderful night camping, singing and playing billiards together and Nature Lodge is a gem that you’d love to explore when in Mondulkiri.

"Mondulkiri" Cambodia´s wild east
The wild east of Cambodia
After a great time on the Mekong in Stung Trang we head to Mondulkiri far in the east of Cambodia. We took the local Bus which cost 12 $ and took 8 hours, usually you can make it in 4 hours with a tourist Bus, but that wouldnt be as much fun. We were the only foreigners on the Bus with another 10 locals which stopped every 20 minutes to get some food like snails, frogs, worms or some grasshopper which they liked to share with us. Mhhh Jummy !!
When we arrived in Mondulkiri we did not know to much about the just that there is a lot of wildlife sanctuarys which sounded already interesting for me as nature boy. We stayed in the Nature Lodge just a couple of kilometers out of town it was an amazing place and is visited by many nature and wildlife backpackers around the globe who likes it a bit quite and wants to connect to nature. The Lodge has many bungalows all wide spread out over the area, so everybody can enjoy some privacy which was great. There is also a fire place were you can spend your nights (which can get quite cold all the way up here, not to bad but you would need a light jacket or pullover) thats also the best spot to hang out with other backpackers and have a few drinks and listen to some great storys. It's for me the best place to stay in Mondulkiri and they also try to safe and reforest the area and also help and support the locals and there elephants. Way to go guys! There is so much to explore around Mondulkiri and the best way to do so is if you just rent a Motorbike and go for it. The main roads are pathed but as soon as you head further out there was just gravel and red dirt roads, which I personally love to drive on. There are so many waterfalls and landscapes to explore that you should plan to stay there for at least 3-4 days. Below you will see the waterfalls in my pictures and a map of the area which the owner of Nature Lodge allowed me to use on my website.
If you are a fishermen you can spent some afternoons fishing the local lake in town behind the airstrip. The most caught fish here is Tilapia but their is also a Chinese fish in there which I dont know what the locals mean with that, my thought would be maybe carp, but I ve never seen any catching one. The locals fish really easy for Tilapia using a drinking straw as a float and a little hook, as bait they use sticky rice which they pressed in a plastic bag to a little ball on their hook so you got some weight on it and cast a little further. Expect the rice not to stay to long on your hook, so keep checking every 5 minutes. Tilapia are mostly feed on the ground so if you use a float you need to fish about 3 meters deep, and dont cast further than 5 meters out. If you do so you will for sure catch something.
For all the Elephant lovers, who love to see these giant animals in their natural habitat Mondulkiri is the best place to do so. I recommend the L.E.A.F. Sanctuary which is a non profit organisation run by the Nature Lodge. All the money made here goes to the Elephants, reforest the area, protecting more forest and to help the locals. So nobody is filling his pockets with the money you pay for the day trip with this gentle giants. More to the Sanctuary and the Elephants in my next post. Personlly if you travel to Cambodia and love nature, waterfalls, wildlife and adventures this is a must go !!!
Safe travels guys and thanks for reading, I would also appreciate if you click that like and share button below !! Rio

Unseen Places in Thailand with Natural Beauty and Activities for Everyone
Thailand; The Land of Smiles. This wonderful country in South-East Asia is so many different things to so many different people. Everyone who has been to Thailand will have a story to tell about the place, its people or the culture. There are also plenty of people who have never visited but somehow have lots of negative or exciting tales about friends’ or relatives’ trips. The fact is that there are so many different peoples and places in Thailand that it is absolutely unfair to generalize either in a positive or negative way.
Stories of being scammed by locals, ripped off by smiling government officials, or fooled into thinking one’s new friend was a lady when in fact it was a transvestite need to balanced with the more common experiences of serene beaches covered in powdery white sand, ridiculously cheap and wonderfully tasty food, tolerant and hospitable locals and achingly beautiful flora, fauna and scenery.
One of the places in Thailand which attracts lots of visitors but maybe doesn’t produce such exciting stories is Kanchanaburi, which is a large province just a little north-west of Bangkok and bordering Burma (Myanmar). In Kanchanaburi there are several large lakes, national parks, the River Kwai and its famous bridge, and lots of fun activities such as elephant trekking and kayaking. Kanchanburi is one of those places in Thailand where people appear to care a little more about their environment and nature than those in the city. There are several active elephant conservation projects as well as an elephant lodge. There are several species of animal which live nowhere else in the world including the tiny Hog-nose bat. It really is a wonderfully diverse part of the world. The main town of the province has the same name, which can be confusing, because the town and the large rural province are strikingly different. The former being rather built-up and the latter having unexplored jungle, massive lakes, tall waterfalls and even a nature lodge for semi-wild and domesticated Thai animals including the wonderful Asian elephant. With what some call the elephant lodge Thailand is contributing towards a much better understanding of conservation and care for the country’s immense natural beauty. Lack of education and financial opportunities can lead the people of developing countries to misuse and harm their natural resources and wildlife. Fortunately, those days are coming to end which benefits all involved from the animals themselves to the locals and tourists. Kanchanaburi province really is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt places in Thailand. Visiting sooner rather than later will give you the opportunity to see it before it becomes over-developed and maybe even help with the fantastic projects going on there.
