Up date FINNALLY on my neck surgery.. still no date yet but... a call to say it will be handled thru the public system but via the specific doctors private practice. Apparently over 12mths isn't the wait I should have had.
Kinda concerned it might heva birthday gift... oh well if it is there is always next year ... it would also fit: the very first scans I had as an independant adult were also a bday gift. Roll on 22nd Feb I guess?
Day 4 After Neck Surgery:
OUCH!! Actually, I expected more pain than I have had. However, I'm still in a fair amount of pain. Continously. I keep having severe headaches. The incision is sore, of course, but not too bad. I have these random, itchy spots/gobs of blood on my scalp/in my hair. The soft brace is driving me insane! Like...not only is it rubbing raw spots of skin on my chin & back but it keeps igniting my claustrophobicness. I can’t take a bath yet but I’m going to try a shower (the first one since surgery) today. My incision bandage is supposed to disintegrate on it’s own. I wish it’d hurry up. The skin underneath it is itching like no tomorrow! 😣 The stitiches themselves are also supposed to disappear on their own. I’m not supposed to put any kind of lotion or cream or anything on it but I can get it wet. I dunno! The first 3 days of this were hell because it felt like they’d beat me up really good. My stomach muscles & sides were sore AF like just moving was mad pain, let alone trying to lay down on them. That was a sure NO-GO! haha Nope. Not even for a second. Even my thigh muscles hurt like hell. Like WTF did they do to me in there?!?! 😯 I expected the bruises everywhere. They told me about those (from the nerve probes so they could see if they were interfering with any nerves negatively). And I suppose the final bit of “symptoms” or whatever, is the sleepiness from the pain pills & muscle relaxers. Like, I’m fine but all of a sudden I’m just nodding TF off! Like, where’d that come from?! LOL! I’ve never! It’s kinda cool to just lay down & fall asleep though, yeah! That doesn’t happen when you live with insomnia. I’m gonna miss that part for sure. 😴
So, something odd happened during my doctor appointment today. It was a post-op for that neck surgery I had back in October, the post-op that I completely forgot about once I was diagnosed with cancer. I got checked in (online! I love living in the future!), paid (also online!), sat down in my socially distanced little chair in the waiting room, and was eventually called back to x-ray.
The x-ray tech said we have the same birthday. That’s not the odd thing, lots of people have September 9th as a birthday.
Anyway, she took x-rays, sent me back to the exam room, the NP came in with a resident, and then she said the thing that pleasantly shocked me:
“Everything looks exactly like it’s supposed to look, and since you only complain of neck pain when you wake up on your stomach, which is a terrible place to wake up when you’re using a neck support pillow, I’ll say the surgery was a complete success! Everything went exactly as planned and you have relief, which is a great outcome. Have a nice day. Be safe driving home.”
This is the first time since early October 2019 that I’ve had a medical exam that ends with, “Yep, that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen.”
I love it when shit goes right.
The cute nicknames I got from my pediatric clients...
When my upper traps spasm...
Another day, another ice pack in my shirt
Today's biopsy went better than yesterday's, and radiology thinks the mass they biopsied today is a fibroadenoma.
Still nervous about yesterday's biopsies. Twin Bro is also nervous. When an MD whose experience is in women's health is nervous, I'm hella nervous. I think I heard him cringe over the phone.
And surgery is still on for tomorrow...
Time to eat a bunch of food and drink ALL the water before I have to go NPO.
