Hi, I’m alive! That endocrinology appointment took a lot of energy out of me, especially given that it was about an hour and a half away.

It was a good appointment though! I think we might be onto something with figuring out what the hell is going on with me now!

I’m being tested for Hypopituitarism. Yeah, long name. Another doctor came and looked at my case and suggested it because a lot of my symptoms just don’t make sense with typical adrenal insufficiency, and I have other endocrine and hormonal problems. Basically, he thinks my pituitary gland is nonfunctional in pretty much every system it’s supposed to help with. Honestly? It makes sense. It would definitely explain why I’ve never been able to stay on a stable dose of medication for my thyroid issues, and why my adrenal insufficiency doesn’t respond well to meds.

So I’ll be getting blood work for that later in the week. Problem with this diagnosis though is that we’re not sure what’s caused it. Tumors and damage to my pituitary gland have been ruled out.

Also, kind of frustrated because yeah, I did look up the life expectancy for people with this and keep getting: “You’ll live as long as it’s treated!” Well, it’s… it’s not, so…

But yeah, I do have hope for the first time in a very long time. Ever since this started I’ve been feeling so fucking hopeless. There’s definitely still a lot of unknowns and a long way to go, but we might be taking the right route this time.

Behind Their Baby Faces

"Did you ever wonder why there are people who look like 10 years younger than their age?"

Baby faces. Innocent smiles.

Are you familiar with a movie, Orphan? Esther, the main cast is one of the best example of having a baby face. Sa movie, Esther is a 33-year old woman who look like a 9-year old girl. Imagine kung gaano sya ka-baby face.

“Is her condition possible in real life?”

The answer is YES. Hindi nya na kailangang gumamit ng sandamakmak na pampabata, magpaturok ng gamot para mawala ang wrinkles at gumamit ng iba’t ibang sabon dahil sapat na ang pagakaroon niya ng tinatawag na HYPOPITUITARISM

“What is Hypopituitarism?”

Isang kondisyon kung saan isa o higit pa sa mga hormones na napoproduce ng ating patuitary gland ay kulang o hindi sapat.

Ang epekto ng hypopituitarism ay depende sa kung anong hormone ang kulang sa taong meron nito. Sa selection na ito, ang epekto ng hypopituitarism ay ang pagkakaroon ng mas batang itsura kumpara sa edad.

Kakulangan sa Luteneizing Hormone (LH) at Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) ang syang dahilan kung bakit si Esther sa Orphan ay mukhang bata. Magkaiba ang epekto nito sa babae at lalaki. Sa lalaki, maaring hindi sila tubuan ng mga pubic hair sa iba't ibang bahagi ng katawan, habang sa babae naman, maari silang dumanas ng irregular menstrual cycle, delayed puberty kung saan mabagal ang pagdevelop ng breast, balakang at maging ang facial features na sanhi ng pagiging mukhang bata kumpara sa edad nila and worst is INFERTILITY o kawalan ng kakayahan na magka-anak.

"Why infertility?!"

Well, dahil nga late bloomer ang katawan, ang bahagi ng katawan nito for reproduction ay hindi pa fully developed causing them to become sterile.

So, kung sa tingin mo ay biyaya ang pagkakaron ng baby face, sad to say but it is a curse.

Maari ring maging kakambal ng Hypopituitarism ang iba't ibang mental disorder depende pa din sa hormone na may depekto sa supply. Kaya kung sa tingin mo nasa sa iyo na ang lahat ng sintomas, then better be aware. Alam naman nating lahat na masaya ang magmukang bata kumpara sa totoo nating edad pero sino nga naman ang mag aakalang may katumbas pala itong mga depekto sa ating katawan?

Ang Hypopituitarism ay isa sa mga pinaka rare na kondisyon na maaring magkaroon ang isang tao. Kaya't kung sa tingin mo ay meron ka neto, ikaw na ang humusga, are you lucky for possessing a baby face or nah? Ciao!
