he radiates warmth & pride, but before she can decide how to react, her features betray her, twisting into an obvious grimace as the skeleton bounds toward them with the eagerness & energy of scratch, tea tray surprisingly steady in hand. he moves quite normally for a puppet on a string but, even so, alara recoils a wary step back from it.

kind & gentle he may be – may be – but also dead. which he conveniently omitted.

it reads the room, at least, & shies away in turn, & from a safe distance, she gets a better look. the goggles are a nice touch, although she can think of about a thousand different, better, ways to put those gems to use than decorating bones that, by all rights, should be in the ground. or dust.

     Wet  crunching.       Not  expecting  visitors,  not  bothered  by  it  though  ;  Kiki  kept  munching  the  remaining  pickle.  Plopping  the  rest  inside  her  mouth,  observing  Emmrich  like  he  came  to  entertain  her  while  she  enjoyed  the  meal.  Enyoing,  however,  was  a  strong  word.  She  just  finished  a  whole  glass  of  them.  All  in  one  sitting,  all  in  one  go.  Only  the  pickle-water  remaining.

   His  question  was  not  completely  odd  for  the  scene  the  necromancer  walked  into.  Her  highness  was  good  enough  to  gulp  down  before  replying  to  his  prying  question.

Oh, how the word could make the fear demon practically purr. And it did, the vibration emanating from that all too familiar location of within the ribcage, where often the sounds of laughter would reside instead.

Such a kind name.

A few steps forward towards the necromancer and it effortlessly closes the gap between them that was rather negligible to begin with.

It was here that Connor could truly indulge, the scent of fear lingering like a fair perfume. It only beckons what primal behavior has itself nestled deep within Connor that's so well restrained behind those golden chains. Instincts claw its way to the forefront of their behavior as from beneath the robes snake out those inky black tendrils, gently curling around his ankles.

"You act so surprised. And yet, you're the kindest soul here within the Necropolis. I do not understand how everyone is not already upon you by default."

luc could handle a lot that most people couldn't because that just came with the territory of being a member of the mourn watch. slogging through rotting corpses, comforting families after a tragic loss, sifting through rubble after unexpected tragedies, helping disturbed spirits find their rest, planting minor shades to scare away would be grave robbers, putting down undead uprisings. but what just happened at weisshaupt, the amount of lives lost, the horrific scenes that they'd all just endured, was on another level entirely. their mind just keeps playing back the scenes over and over again, the screams of wardens echoing in their head, the sound of gil'ganian's voice, the screech of the archdemon.

they visibly startle at the feeling of the cool wet cloth against their skin and their gaze focuses on emmrich. they hadn't noticed him enter their space, let alone get close enough to touch them. their brow furrows slightly, but they don't pull away. the cloth feels nice against their skin and luc realizes that they're leaning into it slighlty, something that they'd normally feel embarassed over but don't have the mental or physical energy to do so at the moment.

"you don't have to," they murmur. their voice is hoarse, but filled with emotions. "-but i appreciate it. i'm not...i'm not used to..." no one ever takes care of them. no one has ever really shown any sign of caring about them except for vorgoth and myrna since she's come into her position. they take care of everyone else. that was the deal, wasn't it? that was their job, right? "thank you, emmrich." their voice was barely above a whisper, the metaphorical mask that they normally wear just out of reach with no energy to put it on.

I mean some of the things I've discussed with @imperitvs are preeetty dark and heartbreaking (I love it) but idk if spitballing plot ideas & speculating how things might play out in certain scenarios counts?? xD

Anyway, if you ever feel like tormenting SH, hmu. Making muses suffer is one of my fav hobbies.

She's covered in filth again. Has been for a few days now. To be fair, they'd been traveling on the high roads without a ready source of water big enough to bathe in, but Nan still hadn't bothered to try brushing out her hair to free it of any ichor that might have gotten caught in it during their last fight. Emmerich, meanwhile, seemed almost pristine by comparison. Certainly he smelled miles better -- a veritable spring day compared to her abandoned cistern.

She snorted at his protest, unamused. "No, I'm not." Nan waved him off. "I'm just saying you need to calm down about some shit. This is what happens on the road. You get gross." So says the woman whose memory only went back a few weeks. "You could use a bit of messing up. C'mere, let me fix your hair." She reached an arm out, ready to muss it up the second Emmerich came within arm's reach.

🌑 . . . ╰──╮ Manfred's sudden presence made Shadowheart step back instinctively before a smile tugged at his lips. The thought was likely inappropriate for one of Shar's faithful, yet he couldn't deny finding this...  nice? And he found Manfred almost endearing. Odd. 

Naturally, his mind turned to the strategic merit of such necromancy practices as well ;  for example, the potential of raising loyal soldiers, perhaps even entire ARMIES of undead without dozens of mages maintaining concentration. 

If enough souls could be persuaded to serve Lady Shar...  &  Shadowheart was sure there would be... oh, the church of Shar would become formidable indeed! 

A soft chuckle escaped when Manfred leaned closer, clearly interested in his hair piece of silver  &  antique gold, adorned with obsidian, matching the jewellery decorating his pointed ears.   ❝This interests you, hmm~?❞   He unfastened the piece from atop his long braid and offered it to Manfred like one might present a toy to a curious child, waiting to see his reaction.

ㅤㅤㅤWhen Professor Volkarin suggested another subject, his smile shifted into a playful pout. 

❝Oh? Giving up on my necromancy lessons so soon? I'm wounded, Professor. Though I am quite knowledgable in botany and alchemy. I can craft a variety of remedies and potions...❞  His expression turned just a little more mischievous.
