Neil in the series wants to play exy and to run away from his mafia side of the family. He doesnt blame his mother for the abuse he endured bc its what had to be done in order for him to get away from the mafia. He latches on to the first person who commands him to stay, who gives him a home and a purpose and a future as an exy player (both Kevin and Andrew in the OG trilogy) and he has a bit of a thing for being seen as belonging somewhere and being someones.

Had Nathaniel been given to the Ravens when he was 10 in a really messed up way Riko would have checked each and every one of those boxes.
