I think even the rich know that degrowth is the only way humankind will survive climate change, but they've already dehumanized the masses, and only humanize those they deem exceptional, qualified by cash, business leaders, good blood. When the planet kills the masses due to their lack of access to safety and resources, the rich will consider themselves Noah, and the rest culled by decree. They will survivor bias as they always have. That's the degrowth that fits them. Not a reevaluation of consumerism and capitalism. Not quieting the factories and the oil drills. Just a mass grave of a planet, and the winners in their bunkers.
