For all dutch-speaking bee lovers
you can view an episode of keuringsdienst van waarde where they decided to test bee friendly plants. The abuse of the label of ‘bee friendly’ has long been suspected but this episode illustrates it nicely:
From the 14 sampled plants (bought from regular garden centres) only three of them were pesticide free and thus really bee friendly. The 11 other plants had pesticide, mostly insecticides, and 6 of those had neonics aka the neurotoxin that has been proven to be one of the major causes of the bee extinction. By EU-law neonics are forbidden-but they are allowed in glasshouses (which is the most often places were garden centre plants are grown) and control to their use is minimal.
Reminder to buy biological pesticide-free plants/seeds to help the pollinators!
