My ideal scenario for V because as far as this blog is concerned DMC5 is only part of the story.
I don’t know if this counts as a headcanon or something else, but here we go.
My ideal scenario for V is a bit in depth, so hopefully, this covers the basics. Feel free to ask any questions, as putting everything in one post is basically impossible. I’d love to fill in the little details in separate posts, but everything pertaining to this AU will be filed under my hashtag “V'sApocrypha”. It has a dedicated section on my home page. I tried to make it easy to locate.
As soon as I saw V with his white hair in the reveal trailer, I was under the assumption that perhaps he was related to the main cast in some way. After a while, I concluded that he and Nero were probably siblings. While I was playing the game, I was honestly waiting for that reveal. My ideal scenario was that, much like Nero, V was orphaned as a young child. The key difference was that Vergil knew V’s mother and gave her the book V carries around during the game as a gift because he cared about her.
My idea was that V’s mother moved away and found out she was pregnant but due to medical reasons was very weak and couldn’t take care of V so she had to leave him at an orphanage and left the book with him as something to remember his family by. She also included a note with a few pieces of info since she didn’t know a whole lot about Vergil's past. He didn’t like to talk about it. If she could have gotten into contact with Vergil before she took drastic measures, she would have. It’s during this time that Vergil meets Nero’s mom, making V slightly older than Nero (he already acts like the “responsible” older brother) After this she passes away and Vergil finds out about what happened, but simply can not figure out where V is (She moved out of the country, Vergil doesn’t know where to look, etc) and this is part of what causes his bitterness in DMC3 and helps reinforces Vergil’s “without strength you cannot protect everything” ideology. I’m sure something like that would weigh heavily on him. He doesn’t stop looking per se, he just pushes it aside and tries to bury his grief over it.
After a kinda rough upbringing at several orphanages, V suffers some sort of injury that leads to his need to use the cane (I go into this more in the fic I'm writing, but I digress) and he decides to venture out and try to track down his family with what little information he can garner about the his lineage from info he tracks down from multiple sources, including the letter and his book (I figured it was very old due to the old man’s journal entry in DMC5 so maybe the book store that sold it kept records and he was able to trace the records over the course of several years to track our favorite devil hunters down. He wants to meet his family, which is part of why he keeps the book. It’s his only connection to his family.
But during this Vergil encounters him and while consumed by his own issues and desires, uses V as the catalyst for his soul split in the game, essentially using him as a storage container for the part of himself he sheds to “gain more power”. But the corruption from Vergil’s toxic soul fragment starts causing the cracking that occurs during the game as they start draining the life from him in an attempt to keep from fading away completely. I have no better explanation for how Vergil is magically alive, so I may as well try and explain that too. They never even bring that up, so it’s super vague.
Damn it Capcom, who do you think you are? From Software?! Why so vague?
This is why V is able to be brought back in my fic: because his soul wasn’t merged with Vergil’s, it was simply sharing the same host. You would just need to untangle them which is what causes his death in the game. He tries returning Vergil’s abandoned humanity to him, but the separation is too much for him at that point in time so it backfires.
The fic I’m working on covers what happens after his revival and everything that happens after that, but this is my headcanon/ ideal scenario for V’s story. Sorry if that’s a bit much. I put a lot of thought in this to try and avoid adding anymore gaping plot holes. Also, his full name is Vitale in my AU, but no one calls him this except on rare occasions ( I guess that means his name would be Vitale Sparda LOL!) He and Nero are brothers but they try not to make a huge deal out of it aside from agreeing to do much better than Vergil and Dante in terms of communication and maintaining a healthy relationship, although they are both kinda secretly thrilled about it. V hides it worse than Nero does though because he’s always wanted a sibling... And he actually likes Nero’s company.
Now he’s not alone anymore. So it’s kinda a happy ending.
So... was that too complicated. Do you like it?
