I'm a little late to the party but I just learned about the Picture of Dorian Gray Netflix remake.

That is my favorite book. They're making my favorite book straight and making Basil and Dorian brothers.

I am fuming at this insult to Oscar Wilde and this act of queer erasure. This is literally an insult to classical literature and Gothic literature.

so I finally watched the new Rose of Versailles...

due to different stuff (mostly life 😆) couldn't get around to watch this remake untill today, but first I must say I totally forgot it was a movie and not a full TV show, so the fact that some events were moved around, or condensed, or left out all together (bye-bye Affair of the Necklace, bye-bye Rosalie sub-plot, and some stuff that was left out I welcomed it - like André almost SA-ing Oscar), was to be expected then...but who thought that the Disney-fication of this story would be a good ideea? 😅

...that the characters would burst into random signing came out of left field to me....am I dumb? did it said somewhere that it would be a disney musical??? 🫤 it was sooo weird.

the art-style was not so bad, but it does not compare to the TV show imho, and my costume nerd observed some anachronistic costumes, and my history and marie-antoinette obssessed nerd had a chuckle when the animators depicted the two titular characters, while Marie-Antoinette was still a Dauphine, having a conversation in cabinet de la Méridienne which was remodelled at the state depicted after she became Queen and had her first Dauphin.....🤷🏼‍♀️. #nerd stuff 🤓

despite all this...I really liked seeing some manga panels being reproduced in this anime.

IMO this would appeal only to fans, bc the story is so shortened, some character decisions coming out of nowhere, that I can't immagine a casual fan enjoying this.

so theres a rumour that theyre making katara the older sibling in the netflix remake while keeping aangs age the same and that just makes me so heated cause thatd mess up the entire dynamic of the gaang and it also takes away a huge part of sokkas motivation as a character and what made him who he was. also, it ruins the parallel that katara and sokka are supposed to be to azula and zuko. my biggest fear now is that theyre basically just making an entirely different show while keeping the names the same cause you cant tell me that this change isnt for zutara since aang being twleve and katara being sixteen fucks up their relationship dynamic and just makes it creepy. and i just realised that this also enables them to sexualise katara by having her aged up and that just makes me dread this even more. that would just be wrong and such an insult to the original show.

Julie and The Phantoms is a REMAKE of a brazillian tv show called Julie e os Fantasmas

It was a Nickelodeon TV Show that aired in 2011 and it was actually one of the greatest things I've watched from brazillian television when I was younger.

It really pissed me off that Netflix hasn't given the proprer credits to it.

I just watched the American version and, honestly, it's fucking great. I loved it! Not as much as the original, but it was really great and inspiring! Specially with such an amazing director (thank you Kenny Ortega)

But man, I feel like I was stolen or robbed. They didn't have to remake it, u know? It was already a great story! They could have streamed the original version in the first place!

Idk man, everything feels weird. I mean, look at this edgy kids, look at them:

The ghosts were from a band called Apolo 81 from the 80's and they were totally based on MCR, which was amazing!

The songs were awesome and Julie was an amazing character and the ghost got to choose who they showed themselves to, so they could interact with the whole cast!

And we had such great scenes and gags like the scene of the red high heels or the scene of Daniel and Julie on the bike or the whole Halloween episode! Jesus, even Nicolas playing RPG was amazing!

I really enjoyed the remake, but they didn't grasp the original... it feels like they just took the premise and ran with it in an entirely different direction...

I don't know man, I think you guys would really enjoy the original Julie e os Fantasmas!

the thing about the avatar netflix remake is... i just feel like the cartoon series is what it is, and i don’t want to see the same story redone or revised. i like the show, i like the characters and the worldbuilding and the plot. i feel like remaking it will either a) cheapen and ruin it á la m night shamylan or b) be good but different from the original, therefore condemning both to constant comparison and hate on the opposite show from fans. Netflix is riding on the high of the atla resurgence and they know it’ll succeed no matter the quality, making me fear for the quality.

There’s just a lot of danger in remaking a cartoon show that deals with rather sensitive themes like race, imperialism, colonization, etc into live action. I’d really prefer to see a new live action story, perhaps with a different avatar (who’s before yangchen? no one knows, least of all the creators). There’s so much unexplored territory in the avatar universe that could be covered, stuff that was touched upon in lok and atla but not fleshed out, and I think it would be better to create a story there instead of rehashing the same thing for a third time. We know about the gaang. We know about zuko’s fire nation. Wouldn’t it be more interesting to see the universe in another time, or from another perspective?

TLDR: i don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing that they’re making a live action series, I just feel like it would be better to create a live action show set in the atla world w a different plot/cast of characters.

Yeah so, Netflix remake?

Honestly probably the best outcome I could have hoped for. Like I legitimately, genuinely enjoyed it and was happy with how well they took from the source material but changed it so that it was something new and I didn’t feel like I was just watching the classic series again. It wasn’t perfect but definitely lots of fun!

And re: Andromeda Shun/Shaun? Still not super happy that they decided Shun would be the one they’d re-write as a girl, but honestly? I thought they did a really good job with her character.

So yeah, I’m holding up hope for more of this remake!
