It’s sweeter than he needs to be, but she appreciates the comfort, even as it draws a quizzical expression across that dainty floral brow.  Part of her wants to argue. To explain that as much as she adores his dedication to the role of bodyguard, she can, in fact, handle herself - but Aerith has neither the heart nor inclination to ask him to leave. If truth be told, she appreciates Cloud for the way he stands so opposite to her; introverted and cynical in place of her enthusiastic optimism and perpetual sunshine. He’s a friend she never expected to find, but one that unwittingly has squirrelled his way into her good graces so effortlessly, she can’t imagine him not being in her life. 

❝Or you could just come with me?❞ Her own counter suggestion is offered with a speculative smile, delicate fingers resting on the slope of her hip as she resists the urge to crinkle that nose at him. It’s not as if she’s asking him to wander into the bowels of hell. It’s only an errand for her mother. Admittedly, the same mother that had been less than fond of him, but still! It’s not as if Elmyra was there now, glaring daggers into his soul and asking him to leave. There was just an endearingly hopeful florist, endeavouring to spend more time with someone she thought could maybe do with it.

Squeezing her eyes together, Jessie tried to breath away the pain, tried to ignore the stabbing, throbbing, pain through leg as she tried to move. A gasp of pain left her voice as she trembled, the adrenaline was enough to make her want to get up and run, to flee, and the endorphins masked the worst of the pain, Jessie hadn’t quite grasped just how bad this was.

Her eyes glanced down at the wound, it was bleeding....and it took her a moment to register that she had been shot.

Shit.

Panic was circling her, threatening to break through. Jessie knew that it wasn’t going to help right now. “No.” Her answer was tinged with fear, they needed to get out of here now and she knew it. Panic flickering across her features as she reached for Cloud. Tried to pull herself up enough that she could at least hobble, but all that happened was a cry of pain leaving her. Oh god. This was terrifying.

That comment coupled with Zack’s grin should’ve been Cloud’s first clue not to trust him. Zack’s ‘Plan B’s’ were usually him just diving into a situation in typical SOLDIER fashion and becoming the diversion himself. He could handle it...usually. And besides-

“I mean, no one said we had to get over there quietly, right? So, c’mon! We can handle of a few of these guys ourselves! It’ll be a piece of cake!”

Biggs let out a little laugh, as he locked the bar door. Tifa was out and about with Jesse and Wedge, Barret had Marlene so he offered to man the bar for the night. 

The last guy he gently lead out at the end of the night had gone off on a nice little rant about how the world was awful and cruel and could he please stay a little longer? Just one more drink? Why’s that blond guy not getting kicked out? Biggs hadn’t been aware Cloud was bothering to listen to drunk mans rants until he spoke up.

“And I’m sure you have some amazing stories to tell. Which, I will be bothering you about eventually because I like a good story.” He mused, coming back around the bar to start tidy up. “You want a refill?”

His eyes flickered away from the television to the body beside him, truthfully, he hadn’t expected Cloud to fall asleep mid-television program. It wasn’t as if it should be a surprise though. Cloud worked hard, honestly, sometimes Denzel couldn’t really wrap his head around how hard he worked. Things were better now than they had been before, but he was still away for long periods of times, sometimes it was hours, sometimes it was days. With a little more maturity, Denze understood it better now. It was a certain sacrifice that Cloud made to help provide for them. Working hard was a way to show you cared about the people that you well, took care of.

With that thought, he moved carefully. Standing up on the couch with a small wobble as she reached over the back for the blanket that sat over the back of the couch, slipping down the back of the piece of furniture. The younger managed to reach down far enough he could grab it and pull it up. Delicately dropping it over the elder before he sat himself back down, and reached for the remote, turning the volume down to the point where he could just hear it.

Well, it wasn’t like he was about to wake Cloud up was it? Plus, the longer he was asleep the later Denzel could get away with staying up...
