Hey everyone!
My name is Tony (He/Him), I run a Youtube channel where I'm running down all the games that came in the Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. The bundle came with 1700 plus items. And I aim to talk about all of them. These items include, video games, Table top games, Game assets, Books and comics, Soundtracks, and other program tools. There are a lot of things that came in this bundle.
Not every episode will obviously be about an indie video game. There already has been a book club episode where I went over 5 comics that came in the bundle. Since they’re a lot easier to cover in less time than a full book. So we took care of some things. In that one. Then there was a map making tool that uses hexagons and there are some hex packs that plugged into the program so that helped cut down the numbers. Needless to say there are ways that we can cut down the number of videos I will have to make. I won't need to make 1700 videos to cover all of this.
Two things I pride myself on in these videos, and something that I feel is helping me grow as a more accepting and wider received presenter. Is that I try to keep all of my reviews PG in my speech, and try to keep any content that's displayed in the video games down to a Teen or PEGI 13 rating. I might be covering games that have content warnings and I will make sure to point them out at the start of the videos. I always link the game store page so that way people can see what is listed and be informed about what might be in the game before even watching the review.
And then the second thing is that I remain diligent in my reviews. Is to keep them as gender neutral as possible. I try to avoid saying things like “hey guy's” or “I don't know about you guys” just basic gender inclusion stuff. I don't want anyone to feel like they’re not welcome to view my videos. I want to be as welcoming as possible to everyone. I try my hardest to stick to general terms for individuals. A lot of They/Them “The Developer '', “Your character”, and other forms of speech that don't assign a gender to things that haven't explicitly stated their preference.
I don't want to sound like I'm trying to pat myself on the back for this. I just want to say that this is a problem that has been existing in the industry and gaming culture for a while and I want to do my part to help fix it. By, as I said, make a safer, more welcoming place for everyone.
If this sounds interesting and you enjoy looking at lesser known independent games. I would then recommend heading over to the YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM3L9riA6oXVNf6iOzNzJnw and give the videos a watch. And if you like what I'm doing and you want to know when my daily uploads come out then get subscribed and hit the bell icon to get alerts when a new video goes live.
I'm going to be uploading my videos here as well. With the full transcripts. So people who prefer to read the info in the videos, they have that option.
A word of warning about the videos. My first couple of videos were not that great and so try not to judge me too harshly on the first 15 videos. Or their scripts. I wasn't really writing with the intention to share them. But as a way of being honest and showing the growth I’ve made. The scripts are obviously written with the intention of speaking the information. So I don't really know how they translate to being read rather than “acted”.
Let me know what you think of the scripts and what you think of my writing. I'm no writing expert and I've only finished NaNoWriMo once, so I'm not the best and I have a lot to learn. Scholarly people let me know if you see anything I could improve on.
Thank you all for any amount of time that you have given me on my adventure. In the meantime, I don't know how to end this written description of the show. Uhhhh I think I'm getting there. IDK thank goodness I won't have to do this again for a while. Thanks again, reblog and let people know all about this project.
And as always friends Keep Digging and we’ll make it out some day. That's like my thing, my sort of catch phrase I say at the end of the video. Okay well never mind it's fine.
See you in the next one. The next post, thing. Okay bye.
