our bathroom built is getting the final touches. the top of the little wall, that is hiding the piping, has been made by our marmista sergio. he is a great guy, doing high quality work on fair prices. gato and i managed to put the two pieces into place without any major yelling fits and we are absolutely in love with our bathroom. yes, we have been at it for over a year by now, if you count the "digging up the floor" part, but the slow evolving of a design has it’s merits. if we had planned a bathroom on a blank piece of paper and then stuck to that plan it would never have come out as beautiful and unique as it is. the old pizza oven would never have become our shower. the rockface would have stayed hidden behind all the old walls plus a straightened new one. the gorgeous old wood of the ceiling and for under the sink couldn’t have been found in a short time. we would never have met the tassi’s, which will provide all the aged (35year old) wood for the rest of the house. the stone steps into the shower would not have been made from old cornerstones. there are designs that are slow in the development but there are, so far, no regrets on this bathroom project. except maybe, that we didn’t buy the boat lamps at the fiera di parma for the shower part. but that will probably last only until we find the lamps that we are going to put in.

How about a quick #FunFriday post? . It's been a very long time since I posted anything to do with house renovations, mainly because we just haven't had the time nor energy to do any renovations! However, during the last few weeks of my PhD, the hubby decided it was finally time to tackle the downstairs bathroom. . In the first pic you can see a before and after, and then the next three show the stages in between. Basically we (and I use the term "we" very loosely here...) stripped out the ceiling, which those of you who were around for our last renovations will recognize as those infused with toxic chemicals... We also stripped out the sinks and cupboards, because we didn't need two sinks and the cupboards were way too small to hold all our swimming gear. We didn't want to remove the tiles or go through the whole process of adding new tiles over the top (like we did in the kitchen), so instead we painted those tiles around the shower area, and then covered the rest with this amazing foil that gives the illusion of a brick wall. . Once that was done, the design process could start, which was where I came in! I was keen to try out an industrial-type theme, and we found some great brackets and lights which added just the right aesthetic. We added in a bath instead of a shower, which I'm so happy with because I've been really missing having a bath, and I think it looks awesome. We also replaced the sinks with one smaller sink, and built up some more spacious shelves. . I'm so happy with how it turned out! The floor is still as was, so not the prettiest to look at, but we will deal with that at a later time. I’m trying hard not to cry right now. I found this vintage green lidded bowl at a flea market with my sister and I fell hard in love. Notice there’s no lid? Stupid me just now, while sick and hacking up half a lung at the same time I decided to pick it up, dropped the lid and it shattered. 😩😩😩 Please let me know if you see anything like this out there.
