NBC News has reportedly cut staff responsible for its Black, Latino, Asian American and LGBTQ+ verticals as part of its company-wide layoffs

As reported by The Wrap, the cuts, announced to staff on Wednesday (15 October), are part of a broader layoff of about 150 employees as the Peacock network separates from its sister news channel, MSNBC. The verticals NBC BLK, NBC Asian America, NBC Latino and NBC OUT will no longer have teams dedicated, but will continue to publish stories related to specific groups.

I feel like we need to stigmatize letting News outlets use your media. I’m so tired of a 30-second, throw away, rage-bait TikTok being spun into an entire News story that people are gonna use to justify their feelings of moral panic, suspicion, and aggression.

Like if you see a short little video on the internet of a house inspector finding shoddy house work, you’d be like “oh my god that’s crazy! Anyway-” *scrolls*. But when it’s fucking plastered on a local News station under the Banner “SCAM ALERT” that’s a problem. We gotta stop that. 😐 That convinces people that this tiny, one-off piece of entertainment is a universal reality they need to be worried about, and that is a problem in itself.
