Today Spent my afternoon practicing my carving skills, whilst I'm more than capable of making things which are functional I really want to improve my skills at making things which are also visually appealing. I've had this bit of cherry sat in the boot of my car for ages and decided that today would be a good day to work on those skills.the wood is rock hard and initially I didn't think this spoon was going to work out and almost resigned myself to chucking it in the fire, however in the spirit of practice I decided to persevere. I'm pretty happy with the end result, it didn't turn out exactly as I had planned but I learned a lot through the process including a few very usefull new knife cuts and grips from the wonderfull book 'spõn' which has been most helpful in expanding my knowledge of this skill.
