“Okay we just need to clean this then you can go for lunch.” Jeff said as we were cleaning the medi-jack hut up.
“I got this, you can go.” I said
“C’mon, you never leave here or your hut. I promise nobody will hurt you.” He said taking my rag. “Now you go and I’ll finish up.”
Jeff said lightly pushing me out the door.
I had been in the maze for a few months now but I never left the medi-jack hut or my hut if I didn’t need to. It was hard for me to fit in since I’m the only girl and really shy.
I don’t remember anything from my past but I’m guessing that I must have been the quiet one.
As I left the hut I saw Newt leaving the gardens, the sun left his hair reflecting golden hues. I had always liked Newt but I never talked to him because I was always too shy, but when ever I saw him it felt like my stomach was doing about 20 backflips a second and my heart rate felt like I had just run a marathon.
I got in line for lunch and what do you know, Newt comes in right behind me.
“Hey, y/n.” Newt said from behind me, I turned around and smiled.
“Hey.” I said softly
“How are you? I’ve heard you’re quite the medi-jack.” Newt chuckled.
“I’m good. And you?” I asked fidgeting with my hands.
“Good, do you wanna eat with Thomas, Minho and I?” He asked
“Um, sure.”
“Y/n, it’s good to see you.” Thomas smiled
“Hey.” I said quietly, sitting down with them.
As they broke off into their conversations I felt out of place really quickly so I quietly got up and walked into the deadheads.
Why didn’t you just say no? Stupid.
I hated how I could never talk to many people because I would always overthink everything. And what ever I did manage to speak was either too soft or too mumbled to hear.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by a twig being snapped from behind me, I snapped around to face the noise and there was Ben. Looking like a mad dog with rabies, he was foaming at the mouth, his skin had this sickly green tint to it and his eyes were dark, almost black.
Before I could muster up the courage to say anything he lunged at me. His hands going straight to my neck.
I struggled for air as Ben shoved me against a tree, knocking the rest of the air out of me I began to feel light headed.
“Hey! Get off of her!”
Ben fell to the ground and the boys started to rush over.
“Hey Jeff! Ben just tried to shucking kill y/n!”
I stayed with my back pressed against the tree, I was shaking like a leaf and the tears started rolling down my face.
“Hey love, don’t cry. You’re okay now. It’s okay.” Newt said wiping the tears off my face.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and sobbed into his chest.
“Hey it’s okay, you’re fine.” Newt said rubbing my back.
“You can take the rest of the day off, let’s go.” Newt said and began to walk me to my hut.
“There. If you want I can come check on you before dinner.” Newt said after making sure I was okay
I shook my head.
“Okay. I’ll see you after I finish up.” He started walking away but I grabbed his wrist and pulled him back, he gave me a puzzled look and I looked down, I knew I couldn’t get a word out if I tired, it was almost as I had forgotten how to speak.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to say, love.” Newt said stepping towards me.
I swallowed hard and wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed my lips to his. His hands traveled to my waist and I smiled into the kiss before pulling away.
“Wow.. that was... wow.” He breathed.
I smiled shyly and looked at the ground.
“So you do like me..” He said.
I nodded
“You seemed to avoid me, I never would have known.”
I shook my head -still not being able to speak.
“You’re just a shy little thing aren’t you?” Newt asked.
I looked at him and nodded before giving him a quick kiss.
“Can you stay with me?” I asked finally being able to speak
“Of course.” He smiled laying down with me.
“Wish you would have told me sooner, I’ve liked you since you came up in the box.” He smiled
I buried my head in his chest and he laughed softly.
“Your shyness cute.”
