Daniel Craig rumoured to be part of the Queen's New Year's Honours List

Ok peeps. So I know the haters will be out with “oh Lando is not on the New Years Honours List”

Well it would have been a miracle if he was. Here’s your facts to shout them down.

Straight away I think people saying a Knighthood are crazy, as Lewis was given that after I believe 5 titles. Jackie Stewart after 3 and endless campaigning for safety within the sport.

However I do expect an MBE (Member of the British Empire) which is what they gave Jenson.

Thing is, he won’t have been nominated till he won the title on 7th December. The list was published on the 30th December. It can take 12-24 months for a nomination to be checked, ratified and decided.

I fully expect his name to be on the King’s Birthday Honours in the summer or next year’s New Year’s Honours. They may wait till next December to see if he wins back to back and then consider the Honour above an OBE which is what Damon Hill has (cos apparently when you beat Michael Schumacher you are considered elite tier).

There is a further Honour above that which is CBE which Nigel Mansell has, but remember he had a 15 year F1 and Champ Car career, winning both Championships.

Either way, Lando has a LONG way to go before he can be considered for a Knighthood, but expect will go into 2027 with three letters after his name.

But hey, James Hunt never got one for his Championship so he’s in good company with or without.
