#new scotland yard #point of interest #lwt #1972 #classic tv #tony wharmby #don houghton #john woodvine #john carlisle #bryan marshall #barry warren #claire warren #shirley cain #brian rawlinson #norman jones #basil henson #mel martin #nicholas young #recently trawling a certain You based Tube‚ i stumbled across a user who has uploaded great swathes of old telly‚ to my delight. a lot of #it I've already seen or even own‚ but finding NSY was huge: I've wanted to watch this for a while but the discs are frustratingly hard to #come by at a reasonable price since Network (rip in our hearts forever) went under. so i guess this is my viewing for the near future‚#before a copyright strike inevitably gets them pulled (and i don't think it's every episode that's available either). the series starts #promisingly‚ eschewing a safe and steady introduction for an altogether more challenging issue based ep; a man has died during a scuffle #between socialist protesters and rightwing counter protesters‚ apparently killed by a police officer. our leads must investigate whilst #balancing the difficult tightrope of public opinion‚ avoiding either a whitewash or an unjust persecution. it's heavy‚ polemical stuff but #the script works hard to maintain balance and present nuance‚ with idealists and extremists on either side (and Woodvine's senior copper #stubbornly sticking his feet in the center). it's still copaganda of course‚ but intelligently done nonetheless #we don't learn a great deal about our two leads at this point‚ but their relationship certainly seems spiky (Carlisle is given to making #leaps of deduction and announcing moral absolutes where Woodvine is almost frustratingly impartial to the extreme). plus nice to see #familiar faces like Marshall‚ Jones and Warren among the supporting cast. a very promising opener

Book Review: Crazy Rich Asians

Genre: Domestic fiction, Humour

Two college professors who are dating and are in a serious relationship, decide to go on a vacation to Singapore to meet the guy’s family. The girl expects to meet a humble family of the man she hopes to marry. But what she doesn’t expect is his boyfriend turning out to be a crazy rich person having a palace for a house and him being one of Asia's most eligible bachelors. If this shock wasn’t less she finds out his family may not be as humble as she expected and there are many people out there who don’t want their relationship to work including his mother. So will they be able to survive this or will their relationship take a turn for the worse? Read the book to find out…

My thoughts: -

This book series is one hell of a ride. There is a perfect amount of family drama and romance and scandals in this book. Though I did think that Nick’s Mom was unnecessarily rude and dramatic. The characters that I loved the most were Astrid and Charlie. To be honest I was much more interested in their relationship and story then the main couple. Also, there were some of the cultural references in this book that I could relate to, that made me like the book more.

Plot: -

“These people aren’t just everyday rich with a few hundred million. They are China rich!”

The characters in this book are so rich that I don’t even think it's possible to be that rich (But then again what do I know about being rich). This book series is divided into three parts. The first book revolves around Rachel being introduced to Nick’s family and the drama that follows that. Second book is more about Rachel’s past and her step family. While the third book is about Nick’s grandmother dying and the drama involving inheritance from her.

The first thing that you need to do while reading this book is have the family tree by your side because you are definitely going to need it. There are so many, so many relatives and characters that you will be confused. This book is a family drama and if you don’t like one then you should probably not check this one out. But if you do it surely worth it.

Characters: -

“I’ve had enough of being around all these crazy rich Asians.”

Rachel is head-strong, opinionated girl. She tries to make Nick’s family happy and have their approval but when things go too crazy, she decides that her sanity and self-respect is more important. That is one of the things that I loved about her. But if reading this you think that our main couple is done forever then you don’t have to worry coz there are things to be hopeful for in the next book of this series ;). Rachel is also a kind hearted character which kind of makes it easy for others to prey on her.

“It’s just that I’ve always tried to keep clear boundaries between my personal life and my family life, that’s all.”

Nicholas Young is a charming boyfriend and a typical main character where the guys don’t realise the problem around their girlfriends until it blows up on their faces and now it's too late. Nick’s character is cool and smart. He stands up against his family for Rachel and keeps his distance from unnecessary drama. The only thing about him that nagged me was how ignorant he was regarding his family and friend’s treatment of Rachel until the very end. Other than that he is a pretty good character.

“And I realize that most of the time it’s my mother’s disapproving voice I hear.”

Astrid is one the most interesting characters in this book series and she deserved more page time. She is Nick’s cousin and only one in his family who approves of Rachel. She is happily married with a son but she realizes that her husband maybe cheating on her. The way her story unfolds during the course of three books is really beautiful. You will see her journey from being a woman who always abides by the rules of the family and their approval to finally getting tired of it and finding herself, her desires. Along with this you will find her dumping his husband’s ass and finding love with a guy who genuinely loves and respects her.

“My only question is: In this new life, is there a place for me?”

Charlie is one of the sweetest characters in this book series and adored him. I always had a smile on my face whenever he entered the scene. There was one point during the end of the first book where I thought - you really don’t have to be this good you know. The act was so selfless and honest but really we all knew there was no use and it was going to do more damage than good. But there is one thing I know, my guy here deserves all the happiness.
