this is gonna be so annoyingly vague but like. honestly just familiarity in general??? Like when he was embraced and whisked away to the other side of the country, he buried himself in his new work bc the only thing familiar to him in this terrible place and this terrible situation was the cars, and despite everything, it was a comfort to him — it soothed him in a way that nothing available at the time could. OR he'll blast his terrible garage playlist bc it's full of music that he's loved a long time, or he'll wrap himself in his favorite jacket bc it smells like his garage or like Queens, or he'll go bother his favorite people bc it grounds him back to a place where he feels normal again — anything that brings him back to a sense of himself

which isn't to say he's like secretly an atheist or he's pretending or anything, he does consider himself catholic, he's just. Very Bad At Being Catholic (being a vampire doesn't help)

he IS also surprisingly superstitious!! (his single dot in occult is for LITERALLY THIS SPECIFIC REASON) He grew up with old-ass old-country grandparents living in the house who only spoke italian and believed in malocchio and curses and folksy superstitions and it conditioned his malleable little playdough brain from a young age
