Ethan swallowed hard, his hands shaking as Jake took them in his. "We don't have to do this if you don't want to," he said, tilting his head down to meet his eyes.
"I want to! I do," he said softly, "I've never done this before. The way I grew up, you know how it was. It was- it's stupid. I don't even believe in that anymore."
"It's hard though, I get it. Growing up being told just thinking about a guy like that was a sin, it sucks. I got lucky with my family, but I get it." He squeezed Ethan's hands. "We can take it slow. I know Nico doesn't mind being the one kissing you for now." His crooked smile was teasing.
"No- I mean I don't mind kissing Nico, it's- it's great but I want to be a part of everything too. Seeing all of you, together, it's… nice." He slipped a hand out of Jake's to cup his cheek, the soft rasp of a five o'clock shadow so different than Nico, or Claire, or-
Instead of letting his mind race and overthink things again, he leaned in, brushing their lips together, tasting the sweet bitterness of Jake's coffee on his mouth, feeling the scar that ran through his lower lip, memorizing every millisecond that passed as Jake shivered and let his lips part. The breathless little sound he made was definitely sinful, sweet and soft, and Ethan couldn't help his smile.
"Was that okay?" he asked as he pulled back, and Jake grinned at him, pupils blown wide.
"More than," he said, and then pulled Ethan back in.
Even if this was a sin, it was the sweetest sin he'd ever known.
