succession s3 e9 recap: what am i going to do with a soul anyway? 4/6
despite me not understanding quite why, gerri tells them about what is going on in terms of gojo.
i honestly just needed another screen grab of gerri.
i miss her. i miss her already. i can't believe we won't see gerri for another year, maybe, and i can't believe we won't necessarily always see these two in the same shot:
i can't really process this information just yet. gerri looks good, though!!!
greg calls roman a sexual pervert (which he deserves) and roman says to the contessa that she doesn't need to speak to greg (which is true).
also, greg has heard on the lackey slack that some investors are, in fact, in italy (which i guess gerri mentioned) because they don't like the pillows there.
listen, whenever greg says something it's honestly a little bit like the swedish chef for me. i understand that some might get it, i respect it even, but i just don't and i zone out. so you'll have to see for yourself instead of trusting my spaced out, adhd brain:)
kerry speaks to gerri and i need to make a little side note: they are really bad with names on this show. laird and baird? kerry and gerri? SANDI AND SANDY? is this a rich person thing? is this the succession writers knowing the fan base and knowing we won't care but absolutely ruin you if you spell a name wrong?
i'm not sure.
also, apologies for spelling mattson's name wrong during one of these episodes. i simply assumed they spelled it the norwegian way, but he's not only swedish - he is a swede written by anglophones:)
anyway.... back to gerri speaking to kerry....
we don't hear what they are saying and when roman inquires what tf is happening, kerry very clearly lies. so at this point, they are not including the sibs in the discussion.....
but previously gerri was?
either kerry is a bigger player than we think she is (perhaps) or something made gerri change her mind....
roman finally gives in and tells shiv the details about his lake como/swiss conversations.
shiv's response is priceless.
because she knows what is at stake. roman thinks he is safe. he was kind of promised a golden cushion, right? a place around the table? that's how they got him to leave.
shiv, however, knows she is not entitled to anything if her dad is not CEO.
fuck anyone who hates shiv more than any of the other siblings. they are all awful and you are just misogynist.
anyway, they bring kendall in, but kendall is really, really, really not doing well.
the cinematography is amazing in this scene. kudos to everyone, but especially to jeremy strong. the man knows how to act.
anyway, he tells the twins shiv and roman about killing that kid during shiv's wedding.
it's honestly quite heartwarming and i can't believe he said it out loud.
also, roman's point is sorta valid: i don't think kendall is as much at fault as he was led to believe by his father. a friend of mine noted this upon rewatch and i have to say the same, having watched this show an unseemly amount of times: it's the cover up that is more or less the crime.
right?
or did jeremy strong just gaslight me with his crying?
maybe.
roman, shiv and kendall FINALLY find themselves on the same team, ready to take down daddy. and they take the longest car ride ever across what seems like not only tuscany, but europe as a whole.
all the finales include some sibling bonding and i LOVE IT.
roman and the rest agree in the car that they are going to go against their dad and honestly, i know i've said matthew deserves the emmy both on here and on my twitter, but look at this face:
kieran culkin is a treasure and i'm sorry i hated on roman during all of this episode so far.
sometimes roman strikes me as the only character truly capable of love...
