Returning once again to the great and underrated French Baroque composers, here is Nicolas de Grigny’s Dialogue sur les grands jeux. Played by Christophe Mantoux in Paris.

Stunning proof that French Baroque organists deserve a wider audience. This is Nicolas de Grigny’s first Organ book (Livre D’Orgue). I cannot do this work justice with mere words (and a pounding headache), but if you enjoy Baroque organ music, listen to this. The great Michel Chapuis, who recorded my favourite version of Bach’s Passacaglia & Fugue in C Minor, plays these stunning works of art. 

Don’t assume that only the Germans knew how to use flair and imagination. The French turned out some outstanding composers during this period: de Grigny, Japart, Titelouze, Marchand, Raison, Charpentier, and many others. Will be listening to more French Baroque soon.
