This new year, I want to love fate more. I find it difficult sometimes to let life lead me, but I want to try this attitude Nietzsche proposes in aphorism 276 For the New Year. To be a "Yes-sayer". To love everything life has to offer, even the hardships.
I think the hardest thing one can do is actually live life. It's easy to fall into the waves of depression and anxiety and to stay stuck in that mentality. It's harder to climb out of it and actually enjoy that life is a bag of mixed outcomes, both good and bad. It is easier said than done. Sometimes, I wish there was an instruction manual on how to live a good life and what to do to find meaning, handle difficult situations, and depressions. But there isn't. It's up to us how to find meaning for ourselves. That is frightening, as I do not know how nor where to begin. Is my questioning the beginning to an "awakening," or is it a downhill spiral into madness?
Maybe I think too much. It feels it is a blessing and a curse — this insatiable hunger. I feel to always question the world, people, and myself. I am hyper aware of everything going on, which means I am well informed and bring me a sense of fulfillment, but I feel dejected more and more knowing the horrors of humanity and life. I have the two extremes — analytical and logical and highly emotional and sensitive. There never is an in-between for me. I wish I could do more, but sometimes it feels like no matter how hard I try, nothing will work. Other times, I believe the little things count no matter what, and there is slow yet gradual change for the better. And I speak not only of the world and its state right now, but personally as well.
Last year was rough. I fell into holes I thought I buried, only to find out the soil was loose beneath my feet. I will try this year to embody a new attitude — amor fati. Love fate. Love life.
"For the new year. — I still live, I still think: I still have to live, for I still have to think. Sum, ergo cogito: cogito, ergo sum. Today everybody permits himself the expression of his wish and his dearest thought: hence I, too, shall say what it is that I wish from myself today, and what was the first thought to run across my heart this year — what thought shall be for me the reason, warranty, and sweetness of my life henceforth. I want to learn to see more and more as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who makes things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all and all and on the whole: someday I wish to be only a Yes-sayer."
