Nightopia/the Dream World is a slice of the astral plane. That explains how it fits into/works with the world of humans, and why it’s easy for humans to cross over when they’re sleeping, since astral projection is based in meditation/entering a different state of mind.
The Night Dimension is actually a simpler term for the Dream World’s proper name Maginaryworld. The reason no one ever brings up Illumina, Goddess of Dreams is because she is always busy protecting the Precioustone from Wizeman. Little does Illumina know that the Precioustone is tied to the Ideya of every Visitor and if he steals everyone’s Ideya the Precioustone will be destroyed along with her.
(This is a crossover based headcanon with the game Sonic Shuffle in case no one can tell)
Owl was the one who created the Dream Gate. Although his powers of creation are miniscule compared to Wizeman’s, who says he couldn’t have created the place cinderblock by cinderblock, brick by brick? Or perhaps he had Nightopians help him. He created it to be a gateway between the Night Dimension and the real world, a sort of “front porch” to the house of Nightopia (with a “gutter” that leads to Nightmare below the “house”).
Time in the Night Dimension passes by much more quickly than in the Waking World. A year in the real world is the equivalent of three years in the Night Dimension.
When children love their plushies, pretend they’re their friends, play with them, and even sleep with them—when they have such faith in their plushies, their subconsciousness create Nightopian-like creatures based off their stuffed animals. The area where these plushie-likenesses are created is a shallower area of dreaming, separate from the Night Dimension (Nightopia/mare). These living plushies act as guardians to their “owners,” unbeknownst to the children, and occasionally follow them into Nightopia. They fight off Nightmarens and protect the childrens’ dreams. They can be very strong if their child has enough faith, but they can also be easily overpowered by a hoard of ‘marens. They typically disappear during the child’s waking hours and reappear regularly until the child grows older and stops having faith in their plushies for protection, at which time, the plushie guardians disappear. They are very rare to find in the Night Dimension, good at hiding until needed.
