In my 8th grade World History textbook there was a diagram which illustrated the most efficient way to pack slaves onto a trading ship from Africa. The operators of the Koh Phangan Night Ferry must've seen a similar diagram -- but hey, in these situations all you can do is suck it up and laugh. I spent the night spooning my backpack while watching a girl across from me try and avoid an older gentleman who liked to sprawl a little wider than the tiny pads would allow. Rumor has it that the last time the sheets were washed, Clinton was in office. By the time we got up in the morning, there was a thick layer of body oil, insect repellant, and sweat from at least 3 different species separating me from the 'mattress.'
