It’s third cocktail o’clock- Asa’s stopped paying attention to the time so much as he’s noticing his drink level in the glass. But he’s been careful, taking gentle sips and nursing it. Maybe a shot would help numb him over - because the night has began to take its toll on him. All the conversations and the familiar faces. His anxiety, kept at bay for the former half of the evening, has started eating away at his stomach as he finds himself standing near the little band. Violins playing something soft and airy, but he hears the familiar static from his head injury. It’s been such a pest tonight.
A face in the crowd startles him when he’s deep in thought, however. It’s not someone who even sees him - but eyes and a brow that look so, so familiar… His head still aches, tattooed fingers drumming the glass in his hand as he tries to chase the persons visage with his eyes. In and out of the crowd, he can barely see him. Maybe he dreamt it - it wouldn’t be the first time he’s thought he saw someone from his past nearby. His father’s horrific, mutilated face. His sister, grown up but with the same infectious toothy smile. And now -
“Henry!” His voice is a gasp that’s a bit too loud, an Irish lilt that hits his tongue as his own dark eyes widen in realization. He’s moving almost in slow motion. It can’t be him. No, that’s… it’s impossible. He nearly drops his drink as folks seem to part away as he walks. Closer and closer, Asa’s so focused he barely realizes if he’s bumping into others. “Henry. Holy shit.” He voices aloud again, without realizing it. A few women move to the side to get drinks and now there is no one between him and the man he hasn’t seen in 10 years. Asa doesn’t know what to do. He stands there, hands shaking, before he finally closes the distance between them - he’s immediately buried in the other’s arms as he embraces him for the first time in so long. “Wh- what the fuck-“ he whispers, voice breaking. He’s been so close to a meltdown all night, and this might just take it over the edge.
