So I don't really have a whole lot of time or motivation for spooky art this season 😢 BUT that doesn't mean I don't have a few spooks stored up in the ol' archives, hee hee 👻 - So boys and ghouls, I give you all... NIGHTMARE TAK 😱💀 - Since there wasn't a Nightmare version of Tak in the 'Halloween Spectacular of Spooky Doom' episode, since Dib didn't know who Tak was yet, I thought I'd take a crack at designing one 🎃 The aspects of Tak's design that I really wanted to exaggerate to a horrific degree were her stitched lips (which if you could see, go all the way around the back of her head) and her bionic parts (tho I think I could have gone a lot harder in that department), and also I tried to make her design look more pointy/edgy overall. I couldn't possibly let the day pass without recognizing that today is the 20th anniversary of the debut of NIGHTMARE WORLD and the launch of my career as a published comic creator. Back on March 6, 2003 there weren't too many (if any?) fully realized comics being serialized online, making NIGHTMARE WORLD and everyone who joined me in the development of this series pioneers in the field of webcomics/online comics. Shown here are snippets of the first two pages of the original version of "Momma's Boy," written by me and fully illustrated by Ray Dillon of Golden Goat Studios as they were self-published online. As discussed in much more detail in WRITE OR WRONG: A WRITER'S GUIDE TO CREATING COMICS (which is getting a new printing coming VERY soon -- honest!), the model of NIGHTMARE WORLD was releasing two new story pages every Thursday, resulting in a new eight-page story every month. We continued this format for a total of fifty-two stories over the course of the original run, later going back and "remastering" some of the earlier stories when NIGHTMARE WORLD went into syndication through other websites, including the online comics hub of @imagecomics/Shadowline. When I was given the opportunity to take the series to print via a quartet of graphic novels, some of the original stories were replaced with newer ones, resulting in a limited edition hardcover omnibus that set a crowdfunding record for @devilsduecomics. Now, years later, I'm delighted to announce that @sourcepointpress is releasing NIGHTMARE WORLD: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION and that it's now available for preorder wherever you purchase comics and graphic novels. I finally got around to watching DASHCAM last night and quite enjoyed it, despite some understandably polarizing reviews. Your enjoyment of the film will likely largely rest upon your ability to tolerate actor Annie Hardy all-engrossing portayal of her dimwitted, wannabe rapper, and blindly self-unaware Internet troll character, who I felt she portrayed to obnoxious perfection. At one point I thought I heard her character give a certain legacy comic of mine a passing/perhaps inpromptu shoutout, and this was later confirmed by a fun little Easter Egg in the "comments" section of the film by the writers, too! Well-played, DASHCAM!
