He joked about keeping up the tradition of asking you out through notes, just like how he first asked you to your first (of many future) dates.

You shivered, your knees tucked to your chest as you desperately tried to warm yourself up. It was a cold, barren basement with very little light. The thin sleeping shorts and tank-top did nothing to help you. Oh, how you craved the warmth of the bedroom Niki provided for you, the soft covers and warm atmosphere. You missed the pink roses in the vase beside your bed, the ones Niki always replaced when the old ones died. You somewhat related to the roses in that sense, whenever you’d break and lose your sanity, somehow, Niki would always find it again. And Niki, oh Niki. You hadn’t seen her in what felt like ages, and as much as you hated to say it, you craved her touch again.

The escape plan had been a flawed one, you now realized. But desperation overruled logic and you went with the plan anyways, escaping out of your bedroom window once Niki had began to trust you on your own. Of course she found you less than an hour later, you weren’t sure how she tracked you down, but she did. When you saw her, you knew you were in big trouble. Her face was both angry and sad, like she was holding back from crying and yelling at you at the same time. She said nothing the entire walk, gripping your wrist and leading you home.

“How could you?!” You remembered her yelling, “I gave you everything and you threw it all away! You’re staying down there for however long it takes for you to realize that you need me.” Then she threw a bucket of freezing cold water at you, and that happened every single day.

You heard the familiar sound of the basement door opening and gasped. You crawled to the end of the stairs, choking back a sob. She was right, you needed her, you were nothing without her!

“Stay down there, don’t go any further!” She shouted. You let out a sob once you saw the bucket of water. She walked further down the stairs, meeting you at the bottom.

“Please, please, Niki! It’s so cold, I can’t stay down here anymore!” You begged, your knees digging into the cold, hard basement floors.

“You should have thought about that before you tried to leave me.” Niki said, seeming completely unfazed by your pleads. She then tossed the ice cold water in your direction, completely covering you in it. You screamed and your arms went up to shield your face, though your hair wasn’t safe from the water.

“Please, Niki! I need you! It’s so cold, I need you! I can’t live on my own!” You pleaded, broken sobs leaving your lips as she looked down at you. Her face turned soft.

“You need me, love?” She asked. You nodded quickly, looking up at her. She then smiled, kneeling down next to you. “See how easy that was? That was all you needed to say!” You let out a sob. “Shhh… don’t cry, my love. I’ll get you a towel.”

She retreated up the stairs again, coming back with a faded pink towel. She kneeled behind you again, grabbing up your hair inside the towel to wring it out. You shrunk slightly at the contact. “Stay still, you’ll catch a cold if you don’t dry your hair.”

You listened, getting used to her gentle touches again. “I’m sorry, Niki. I shouldn’t of tried to leave.” She didn’t say anything for a moment, though you did feel her grip tighten at the thought of the previous situation.

“You’re right, you shouldn’t of.” She replied. For a moment you thought she was going to get angry again, but instead she continued drying your hair. “But that’s in the past, I forgive you now.”

You breathed a sigh of relief. You felt yourself relax into her touches, you missed her so much. Despite her often bipolar nature, she loved you! She would never hurt you without reason, without you deserving it.

“The world out there is a dangerous place.” Niki explained, putting down the towel and tracing patterns along your back. You shivered. “I’m protecting you, so you don’t need anyone else but me.”

You nodded slightly. “You’re right.”

She smiled and placed a soft kiss to the side of your neck. “Of course I’m right. I’m always right, my love.” Niki said, “Let’s get you into some warmer clothes, then I can read you a new story.”

You nodded and smiled at the woman. You were just like a pink rose; you could die and die again, and Niki would always bring you back to life. She was black and white. She was a fighter and a healer. She was both the kiss of death and the kiss of life.

you looked at him with a blank expression. “i’m not using a fucking pickup line, alex”

his eyebrows furrowed at you as he chewed it slowly. “why not?” crumbs spewed out of his mouth. “niki would love a good pickup line,”

“because that’s stupid! maybe that’s the reason you don’t have a girlfriend,” you joked, pushing your hair out your face. alex narrowed his eyes at you, taking another cracker and throwing it in your direction.

“hey!” you protested

“but seriously,” alex said. “why don’t you just ask her? just stop being pussy and just text her how you feel,” he said standing up. he brushed the extra crumbs off his clothes and they all scattered over the floor.

“it’s not that easy! you of all people should know that since you basically repel women,”

he looked at you unamused, and started walking towards the door

“wait, wait, wait,” you grabbed hold of his arm. “i’m sorry,” you looked at him. “please help me? i’m your little sister and you’re supposed to love me,”

alex pursed his lips. “give me your phone,” he held his hand out. you immediately regretted begging him for his help. you raised an eyebrow.

“why...?” you dragged out

“what are you going to do?” you held your phone to your chest protectively. alex rolled his eyes at you.

“not if you need my phone, you’re going to do something stupid,” you accused, knowing exactly the kind person your brother was

“fine, don’t trust me then,” he shrugged his shoulders, he flicked your forehead playfully and then left your room. you just sighed.

your relationship with niki was a weird one, alex introduced you to her while he was streaming with her and some of the others. you were already a big fan of her but after speaking to her through alex’s stream, you and niki talked more frequently.

alex constantly teased you for your crush on her. you denied at it first, but soon after realising how often your eyes were stuck to your phone screen just so you could message her, you realised you were totally falling in love.

you went on about the rest of your day, not thinking about it again. your mind was invested in a book as you laid on your bed.

until you got a call from a certain someone later in the afternoon

a smile slapped across your face as niki’s name illuminated your screen. you happily answered the call.

“hi!” you greeted as normal, a little curious to why she was calling at such a random time.

“hey [y/n]!” she responded, her voice made your heart flutter. fuck

“how come you’re calling?” you questioned. it’s not that it wasn’t normal, but usually she would text you to say she wanted to facetime or get on call with you

“actually, [y/n], i just wanted to ask you something,” she told you. your heart sped up, wondering what it could be.

“um- i don’t know if this is true but, alex texted me saying you like me? and i just wanted to know if-“

your eyes widened “just a second niki-“ you interrupted. muting the call.

you burst into your brothers room, kicking the door open forcefully, the handle almost left a mark in the wall after slamming into it. alex turned around in his swivel chair, startled.

“qué chingados te pasa?” you hissed, threatening to launch yourself at him. “estás loco? por qué harías eso?

“woah, jesus christ [y/n]!, calm the fuck down!” alex yelled, throwing his hands up in defence.

“when i asked you to help me this is not what i meant! WHY did you text her??”

“did she reject you?”

“no! i didn’t even get to talk to her, my first instinct was just to kill you-“

“oh my god, shut up!” he shouted at you. you, for some reason. shut your mouth immediately, a little taken aback at how loud he raised his voice. you were just scared of ruining a friendship, and he understood that. but tentative movements followed, he gently grabbed the hand which was holding your phone and removed it from your grasp, he pressed the unmute button

“hello? [y/n]? are you still there?” niki’s voice was heard again.

you nervously gnawed on your lip. “yeah,” you took in a deep breath

“is it true?” she asked you.

you looked into alex’s eyes. he nodded at you.“would it be a bad thing if it was true?” you queried, your tone showing a little vulnerability

“no, because, i really like you too,”

alex opened his mouth and let out a silent cheer, while your face just went red with embarrassment, but your face was smiling so profusely that your cheeks started to hurt.

“really?”

“really.” she confirmed.

alex looked like a proud mother. ‘you’re welcome,’ he mouthed, before he sassily walked out of his own bedroom, accidently bumping into the doorframe on the way out.

You walked towards your headquarters, more like a huge warehouse of sorts.

Opening the door, you say hello to everyone, setting up for a new video. Due to Covid, we can’t usually do many things now, but since Jimmy has gone into gaming, it would be less hectic for you.

“Hey, no sir! I need that over there, not in the middle of the room!” You told the worker, making him angry.

“Then move it yourself!” The angry worker called.

“It’s your job, so since you made me carry it, it’ll be deducted from your pay.” You smiled picking the heavy box with ease.

He tried to help you, but you shook him off, walking and placing it where it’s supposed to be.

“Oh, also? You’re fired.” You smiled.

“That’s [Name] for you!” Chris laughed.

You walked towards Karl, who had noticed the whole situation happen.

“Hey, [Name]!” He waved, beckoning for you to come closer.

“Hey, Karl! Have you seen Jimmy anywhere?” You smiled back, then looked around, scanning the room for him.

“Okay,” You jotted it down. “Can I join then?” You meant it as a joke but as Karl jumped up and down with excitement, you became nervous.

“Yeah, you can!” Jimmy smiled, looking back at the screen.

“Wha- I- I was joking!” You stuttered, fumbling a bit.

“Well not anymore! Come on let’s go to your office!” Karl jumped up and down, saying his goodbyes to Jimmy and dragging you back to your office.

You were now entered into a challenge that could win you millions, by accident.

when niki streamed, you tended to avoid invading them — not wanting to have many people's attention shift onto you, when they should be focused on the host herself. but when she asked you to join her, who could say no.

seated to her side, you conversed and joked with the viewers to the best of your ability— still not the most comfortable on camera.

“what is the weirdest food combination you’ve ever had… I don’t know, I need to think about that,” niki scratched her head slightly as she pondered ont he question.

“marshmallows and ketchup — and before you ask how or why, let me just say that it was for money.”

niki laughed loudly at your confession, “of course it was for money — i’d be concerned if you did it for nothing.” she turned her chair slightly so she could face you, her knee knocking into your own. “so… what did it taste like?”

you thought back to when it had happened — a night with a few drinks passed around and someone who had recently got paid and was ready to blow some of it. while you couldn’t remember the exact taste, you could remember the texture as if it was yesterday.

“picture eating a normal marshmallow, but like, add a touch of battery acid — the ketchup burned my tongue-“

“ketchup isn’t hot-“

“I know that… but it and the marshmallow together was just,” you shuddered at the thought of it. “let's just say I didn’t do any more food combos that night.”

a small ding brought your attention back to the screen, a dono drawing attention to the sun goal meter at the top of niki’s screen — the number was slightly over the one that was pre set sub goal.

“oh, we hit the sub goal!” niki smiled as she spoke. she pushed herself away from her desk and hurried out of the room for a moment, leaving you awkwardly sitting as you awaited her return.

niki hurried back in, a small bag clutched in her hands and an mischievous glint in her eyes. you watched as she set the bag down onto the desk, the sound of a soft thump and ringing of a bell following.

“what the hell is in the bag,” you went to reach for it slowly, but niki grabbed your hand quickly and pushed it back to your chest.

“no, no! I want it to be a surprise!” she pulled a small piece of fabric from her sweater pocket, moving to stand behind you. “can I blindfold you for a moment?”

as soon as you gave her the green light, your vision went black, no longer able to see the setup and rapidly moving and excited chat as she carefully wrapped and tied the blindfold over your eyes.

while niki had remained awfully quiet during the ordeal, you could hear soft giggles and sighs just over the sound of bells and the bag crumpling.

“you’re going to be adorable…” as she spoke her hands lifted a section of your hair, and slid something that you could only describe as a hair clip onto it, securing it with a satisfying click — the other side with a repeated action.

the realization hit you fast, “oh I know what the hell is on my head now-“

“shh! just wait for me to get mine on!” two clicks followed soon after her words, the soft sounds of the electronic voice reading out compliments to the both of you.

with a tug to the knot on the back of your head, the blindfold fell, revealing the sight to you — niki with a large grin on her face as she played with the bells attached to her pink andwhite cat ears, and you, slightly shocked at the image of yourself with black, white, and pink cat warts adorning your head.

niki turned to you, he large grin melting into a more genuine and heartfelt expression. with a slow and gentle hand, she reached up and brushed a strand of hair from your face, “you make a pretty cute cat person.”

you felt your cheeks warm at her compliment, your attention solely on her and her lovely words. “you’re too nice to me — and let me tell you,” you brought your own hand up to intertwine with her own, bringing it to your lips and placing a kiss on the back of her hand. “you make a down right gorgeous cat-girl.”

“and you think I can? niki, now I need to start a petition to get you to wear them daily!”

even though the chat called you simps, they all could see the unspoken love the two of you shared.

and they all couldn’t deny that the two of you in cat ears, was the best thing to happen to the community in the past few weeks.

niki blinks at you, her lips parting in surprise as her eyes dart back and forth between your flushed face and the bouquet in your hands. slowly, she pulls the bundle of flowers from you, eyeing the colourful petals with a curious hum.

“really? these are for me?”

you nod, your fingers twitching at your sides as you suck in a deep breath. “y-yeah! i wanted to get you cornflowers because they’re the national flower of germany, but they didn’t have any, so i got you tulips instead.”

before she can respond, you screw your eyes shut, feeling the anxiety rise in you. “i, um, totally understand if you don’t like them or anything, but i just wanted to show you how much i appreciate and l-like y—”

just then, you feel something warm and soft against your cheek. your eyes shoot open, and you turn to see niki staring at you, a bright grin stretched across her face. you blink at her with wide eyes, your heart flipping in your chest at the sight of her rosy cheeks. lifting the bouquet toward you, she opens her mouth, her gaze shimmering with something you wanted to believe was love.
